Above all I am a realist. There has not been 'one Cyprus' since 1978 and talks since then have produced nothing.
Cyprus will now be divided permanently with gradual recognition of the North which will become a part of Turkey.

Not true - the genetics tends to suggest that so called Turkish Cypriots are genetically very similar to the so called Greek Cypriots and by and large the majority of all Cypriots (excluding post 74 settlers) can trace the majority of their ancestry to the original first permanant neolithic settlers to the Island c 6000 BC or possibly before - rather a longer history than since 1571. It is now quite widely thought that the Turkish Speaking Cypriots are descended from Latin rite Christian Cypriots, who converted to Islam, possibly to maintain some supremacy or advantages that they had under the Catholic Lusignans and Venetians when the Orthodx church was repressed.

I find it appalling that people would defend this mans comments.

This highlights the huge gulf between the Turkish and European mindset.

What your average man says in the street or on a forum is one thing.

However what Eroglu, as the elected leader of the TCs, says in the glare of the international community should be viewed as an absolute disgrace, especially by the TCs, as this will do no good to their cause.

Had a western leader made such public comments he would be immediately removed from office and I advise the TCs to push for his removal ASAP as he is damaging your reputation and put in place someone with some real integrity and diplomatic clout.
