Maybe israel and the USA will chop up turkey into 15 little countries. Then we can think about it.

Just to ease Lordo's concerns:
Transporting via pipelines is cheaper that transporting via ships, but have in mind the whole Gulf transports via ships despite the higher cost. Have they become less billionaires?

It is a bit unfair to attack Lordo, who is Turkish, for supporting Turkish interests. Let me remind all forum members that "our own" Get Real and Pafitis were the first to suggest and support that our gas should be transported to Europe through Turkey. So, if Lordo is accused of being an agent of Turkey, what are Get Real and Paphitis? Good Cypriots?

...thus in a free market economy, there is a value in shipping which a pipe does not have.

...raising Capital, risk management, and long term contracts all have their costs; shipping in boats is very simple comparatively.

however as this enterprise evolves, its scope and magnitude may have an effect as significant as the Russian fields, enosis will be to join these infrastructures together; while doubly serving the European market, able to expand this expertise further toward the middle-east. Turkey expected to be the honest broker for this trade, she may not have expected the significance of Cypriot, and Israeli, exploration, nor their ability to be an equal and compete in this regard.

...clearly, for those who lay pipes it is necessary to have political, social, and economic stability, as well as (on land) a willingness by the dwellers to have these pipes cross their land, Peace is a logical objective. as Resources are more fully exploited in the Mediterranean fields, the pressure on Turkey to evolve will be even higher, if she is not a step ahead. all this starts with Turkey's recognition that she is passed the Treaty of Lausanne, and that Cyprus is a Sovereign State not unlike her own.

"One top-level Turkish energy executive told the group that the pipeline infrastructure to export gas to Europe could be built in two years.

The other pipeline alternative – from Cyprus to the Greek mainland – would be far too costly and pose a logistical nightmare.

But it cautions that the two sides, trapped in their “own myths” are not talking to each other.

“Turkey has not yet expressed an open interest either in talking to Greek Cypriots or transporting this gas. Even if it did, such a discussion would need third-party mediation – by the UN, the US or another neutral non-EU country.”

Obvious dream of the Turks to become the sole provider of gas and oil to the EU and turn Cyprus into a real Turkish province. What I have to say here is this. Once israeli, cypriot and cretan gas start flowing, the EU will be more than happy to contribute to the cost of the pipeline from Cyprus to Crete and Greece and thus secure an ample supply for its needs, through member countries and away from the Russian and the Turkish influence.

P.S. What a coincidence. It was only last month or the one before last that our own GR submitted a post making an analysis on this subject very close to the one of the Chrissis Group. You think he knows something which we don't?
