I agree with GIG. Maybe it was part of a grinding wheal... Are the holes at the exact opposite sides of the rock?



Yes Sotos, they prety much are. The rock looks like layers of melted lava or similar.

Agree it is probbaly a grinding wheel of some sort.
Am I right in thinking the sides with the holes in look smooth - the holes might be a socket to locate the stone and provide an axle about which it can be rotated in some sort of bowl to hold what ever is being ground.

It could possibly be one of these in the picture below with the two holes to act as an axle rolling the stone back and forth with two peices of wood.

Hiya Kafenes... trust health is good.

If it's a corn grinding implement... then you have what's called a quern or quern-stone.
