Many of the British I have come across in the North are types I would probably avoid if I came across them in London. I have also met some lovely British people living out there but it has to be said, they are willing to take such a huge risk on title deeds because the change it means to their lifestyle is huge - life changing.
The unfortunate truth is there a lot of stupid people out there who will A) Not do thier proper research and make sure they are only buying pre '74 TC title deed, and B) Believe what estate agents in the North are telling them - that nowadays TRNC title deeds and pre '74 TC deeds are considered the same thing since all GC's had to make their claims with Turkey's immoveable property commission by the end of 2011.
What the estate agents fail to mention is that the original land/property owners in the South also have the right to wait for a resolution to the Cyprus Problem before making their claim. They also fail to tell them how different the laws are in TRNC, and that the laws appear to be open to interpretation if you have enough money ....
While we shouldn't suffer fools who haven't looked into the title deeds issue sufficiently, it's also disappointing and sad that people will do this to each other just to make money.

I think the British must be resident for 5 years to gain citizenship, and therefore an identity card.
newgeneration wrote:Yes I think you're right. Non Cypriots are unable to buy pre 1974 Turkish TD. Thanks for the correction.
