Nice wiki article with pictures.

Nice bridge, but where is the river? :?

That bridge was built some 3,500 years ago - many rivers change their course in that time.

Yes, it's very very old but has a lovely keystone demonstrating the early engineering required for their construction. :D

Of course, this surviving one went over a small river. The larger ones, maybe older or later, probably have not survived as well as this compact version because of their larger size.

I'm always amazed when even one sample is available to marvel at. Humans are so destructive by nature.

WTF...!!! Our "g"IG are you seriously trying to pass off this pile of rubble (albeit with a keystone) with a hole through it as an arched bridge...??? ... :P

When this bridge was built, over 3,500 years ago, your ancestors were throwing logs onto the river to help them cross!

ClapTrap, they were building lovely Clapper Bridges... and they didn't try and pass them off as anything other than very basic and functional designs.

Must find a picky of BillC's favourite one... On Dartmoor, Devon... with a pub next to it... :P

I believe the oldest one of those goes back as far as .... erm .... a few centuries ago!

Clapper bridges were built some 3,000 years later than the arched bridges. Functional? have you tried walking over them? Even sober? They are slippery!

Forget the foresight of logs to cross, 3,500 years ago, your ancestors were using stepping stones! :D

Loada Pollocks...!!!

There is an increasing body of evidence that the earliest bridge on the Thames dates back to 3,500BCE ...!!!

5,500 years ago...!!! On a river twice its current width and with a twenty foot tidal range! ... at a time when your Mycyneucian mates were thinking up interesting things to do with sheep... :P

No, a Cypriot would never do that, but it's quite common in the UK.

Once again we see the Bulgaro-Albano-Ottoman leftover gypsy crap who have recently repackaged themselves under the label “Greeks”, derailing yet another Cypriot thread!
