I can really see Byzantine Architects and Builders travelling for projects to Cyprus from all the way in Epirus!

I hope they didn't forget their American Express!

Particularly as by that time the Byzantine empire is likely to have already dissappeared and where Cyprus was under Venetian control.

We have previously discussed the architecture: the pointed arched Bridge can in fact be traced back to Roman Times, where there is the Severan Bridge in Turkey, built in 211 AD or so.

Possibly the oldest existing arch bridge is the Mycenaean Arkadiko bridge in Greece from about 1300 BC.

Bill c. - do you know that different sized bridges are built to span different widths of rivers?

Yes, it's very very old but has a lovely keystone demonstrating the early engineering required for their construction. :D

Of course, this surviving one went over a small river. The larger ones, maybe older or later, probably have not survived as well as this compact version because of their larger size.

I'm always amazed when even one sample is available to marvel at. Humans are so destructive by nature.
