I brought a Blaupunkt Radio GPS system over from UK and havn't done anything with it yet. I wonder if this new service can provide compatible data on compact disk for this hardware.

Go and check your device. Tell us what type of card slot it has. It should say on the case or the box.

My question is: Why don't you market this product as a complete solution? You have done 99.999999% percent of the job but you didn't make that extra step and add this card into a GPS device and sell it in Cyprus as a COMPLETE SOLUTION! It's such a shame because selling the card to people who already have GPS devices is NOT your primary purpose. The amount of confusion which will be created over this is going to be huge and will ultimately hurt sales. Why don't you just buy a few GPS devices and bundle your card in with a good price and sell it to consumers. The moment someone hears that they can have GPS navigation for 100 pounds they will be VERY excited, only to have that excitement taken away 3 seconds later when they realise that they'll need to spend another £200 pounds on a device that doesn't even exist!! Come to think of it... Is GPScyprus hoping to sell ANYTHING???

What's going to happen with people like my dad, who's 59 years old and is drawn to this technology. In fact he would love something like this in his car or for trips. But the moment he hears the words "SD-Flash" he will zone out and not be interested any more (he does that a lot) and so do many technophobes. The moment people realise that they'll need to buy this card and then some other hardware and hopefully get it to work by themselves THAT'S IT.... you have just lost 70% of Cyprus from being your customers.

Come to think of it. Even though I love this idea of GPS navigation I won't even bother buying anything until I can get the hardware AND card together in one package. I don't want to end up with a Japanese only device from eBay or an American device that won't charge because it uses DC power. Foreign warranties on these products are going to be invalid anyway.

GPS Cyprus could just bring 2-3 devices for testing and research then take orders and prepayments from customers and ship them over with no capital needed. Buying the devices this way could be beneficial as you wouldn't keep any stock.

Sorry Andy i was unclear in describing my unit, it is a Blaupunkt Travelpilot DX-R52A. It is a car stereo with a built in RDS system, it's data is contained on a CD rom which remains in the player when in use.

I have visited the manufacturers website but they only cover part of mainland Greece

Some basic things about GPS Cyprus, I can say on this forum. Some, I cannot. I am not authorized to do so, and I am not their representative.
However, I can tell you this:
GPS Navigation (software on card) has been tested in all the latest models of "Garmin", as the best device (currently). Many reasons for that.
"Technophobes" as your dad, have nothing to be afraid of, and can use navigation easy as they use mobile phone. You just insert the card, press the "Power" button, wait few seconds to establish satellite connection and that's it. Menu, is on the other hand something everybody has to know but again, its very simple. Everything is on the screen. This is truly "Plug and Play" and I am sure everybody can use it. As I described, there is nothing to install, setup etc.

Selling package (all in one), device with card inside will be available soon. Some other jobs are to be done before. Offices, people, media etc. Then, at the end (when ev. done) goes public promotion which will be held in Nicosia.

I have been told that this GPS navigation will be given to all emergency vehicles in Cyprus, absolutely free of charge. That will be announced on the press conference. We will all feel more safe

I agree. Nobody wants to wait 1 month for delivery and the shops will not bring a lot of stock of different kind of devices unless they know there is a lot of demand for it. Best way to start is for GPSCyprus to bring some devices or to make agreements with shops like Germanos, Electroline etc to bundle the SD with the device and sell it as one.

You will have to wait a little for a CD version. This is due to software copyrights. Only one company in the world has software which can compile GPS Cyprus navigation system. Right now, there are negotiations between Age of New and them (don't know the company name). When released CD version, you will also be able to use in Mercedes, BMW, Renault... and other (including Japanese vehicles). They want a lot of money for that software. A couple of hundred thousands pounds. Believe it or not.

Generally, its the same source and is not a problem. Just optimized for CD users. Like when you are saving some file in your PC... "Save As" and than you choose file format.

No Andy. There is no subscription. Once you have GPS, you need only satellite connection.
