UK MP wants volunteers to clean up churches in the north

UK MP wants volunteers to clean up churches in the north

Postby Jerry » Sun Mar 18, 2012 8:45 pm

A group of British MPs and volunteers will take part in a two day clean- up session of desecrated churches and cemeteries in the occupied areas of Cyprus.

Conservative MP and Chairman of the British All Party Parliamentary Group on Cyprus David Burrowes announced the proposed clean up session of a total of 18 churches and cemeteries is scheduled to take place between 9th and 13th May.

The Cyprus Church will fund the initiative. A drive has already begun in London to recruit volunteers.

The decision for the clean up session was taken following a visit by British MPs to the occupied areas where they witnessed the destruction of churches, cemeteries and other religious shrines.

The occupation regime in an effort to erase all Greek or Christian elements from the occupied areas has, from 1974 destroyed archeological sites, cemeteries and many churches.

From various testimonies given to the Department of Antiquities and the Cyprus Government, it seems that a number of approximately 500 churches, chapels and monasteries have been pillaged, vandalized and/or demolished, while more than 15.000 icons of saints, innumerable sacred liturgical vessels, gospels and other objects of priceless value have been stolen from the churches.

Jerry, as commendable as this sounds, it is total BS. The UK can see the destruction but continues to support the occupatione regime with no consequesnces.
What is the UN resocultion or war crime number for this type of behaviour???

I'm sick to the back teeth with all these papthetic initiatives but no one does what they should really be doing, and that is sanctioning Turkey into submission.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it.

Yes, yes, yes reh B25... naturally a small group of GB MPs aren't the GB Government, they ain't the GB Foreign Office or the UN but it's up to us to take their pretty symbolic clean-up, the desecration and ethnic cleansing they are highlighting and to run with it, to spin it and use it to max advantage, particularly of course if and when the Illegal Regime tries to interfere with the work.

Yup. Symbolism is what it boils down to. Very satisfactory. Symbolic gestures in the form of a few days off in the sunshine. Nice.

Beggars can't be choosers...

Why is it am thinking... if some people lived to a thousand they would still not be smart enough to recognise a God-sent opportunity to condemn the Occupation, the Ethnic Cleansing, the Desecrations and the Thefts and so to further the Struggle? ... :P

The MPs have already made their minds up.

- Are you hoping for some accolades riding on the back of their decisions?

No more can be mustered except by moving on, in the hope of greater things.

... never rest on your laurels.

How about the British politicians do a little more to support a Country under occupation. How about they start imposing economic sanctions on Turkey for her atrocities.

Absolutely right Bill, we should use this excursion to demonstrate the true nature of the 1974 "peace operation".

Never you mind me laurels, get off your bum and contribute to the CY Liberation Struggle, not to promotion of Atheneucian Tyranny... :P
