I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is
like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the
handle.
Would someone care to mention this to the Red Prez?

I know he is a favorite of many Englishmen but we need to remember that he's from another era!

Tax is tax is tax whether levied by Ceasar Agustus or Christoffeearse, which should be levied simplyb to maintain the minimum neccassary government services: unfortunately here in CY far too much goes on Jobs for the Boys, at a vast rate of pay that so many would simply fail to acheive in the private sector.

That's a nonsensical accusation since all the services provided through raising taxes are far superior in Cyprus than in many Western countries.

Bullshit - look for example at Public money poured into that failing enterprise Cyprus Airways: I do not think we otherwise get good value for money from our cilivil service which is so often seen as a beaurocratic nightmare, vastly overstaffed and where the increasing burden on the taxpayers of Cyprus is increasingly unaffordable.
