Yes, of course some Cypriots signed up for money. They were kept impoverished under colonial rule.

Specifically what was nasty in my reply or is that your standard diversion when you lose an argument?

No - I replied to your point and the aside was in brackets. If you have no answer, that's fine. Carry on suggesting life was wonderful under the "British Empire".

Oracle, where did I ever suggest that "life was wonderful under the "British Empire"? If I thought that why would I mention a 16 year old joining the British Army because he was hungry - hardly an endorsement of a wonderful empire.

Exactly. And yet you blame the Cypriots for wanting to put an end to such subjugation asap - you advocated waiting and denigrate these men who went on to form EOKA. Even Churchill understood why the Cypriots wanted enosis (just to get this thread back on topic).

You certainly have a "talent" for twisting an argument around. Here's one for you, because according to you it was better to suffer hundreds of deaths and risk dragging Turkey into the mess than to suffer British subjugation for a few more years.

Another good example of South Cypriots trying to re write history to suit themselves.

When the Greek army encountered and saw off ill equipped Italian expeditionary force then capitulated like true surrender monkeys to a proper German army a short time later Churchill actually said ' Heroes do NOT fight like Greeks. Greeks capitulate like surrender monkeys and eagerly hand over all their Jews"

I think you missed out the "NOT "to suit your version of history......again.

You are pretty good at re-writing history yourself, the only ill equipped force in Greece at the time were the Greeks, not the Italians, Germans or indeed British troops who surrendered/withdrew/retreated alongside the Greeks.

Singapore?

Not my words, they come straight from WSC.

Are you accusing Churchill of re writing history ?

Perhaps we meant 'ill equipped' with bravery ?
