Ryan Air.

Postby fig head » Sun Mar 04, 2012 9:05 pm

I know they would be operating some time around April But would like to hear reviews about people who know more about them or previous experiences.

The other day I went to a website that said their prices would be like 50-60 euros to go to UK and 30-40 euros to go to Greece !

I think those prices without luggage and VAT probably but if it is that cheep more holidays need to be arranged for lots of people.

Would they be operating to destinations outside Europe?

They have good prices especially if you are flexible with the dates and you search a bit. The price includes a carry on luggage but it does not include some administrative fee (i think it is €10 per flight). But if you want to check in luggage then the price will be higher. They also usually don't use the main airports but some low cost airports which are further from the city you want to go ... so you need to factor the cost of transportation to and from the airport. For example for Barcelona they don't use the airport at Barcelona but an airport in Girona which is like an hour drive from Barcelona.

I've never used them myself, still this is how I see them:

Prices can be very good, but mentally prepare yourself for "a fee for this and a fee for that" before you go through the booking procedure. To me, their line of pricing policy is annoying, others may think differently.

As Sotos state, too many people who didn't do the necessary research (I can't imaginge their level of planning) ended up on an airport 150 kilometers away from the target. I don't see this as a too big disadvantage though, sometimes you'll get lucky - it brings you closer to the target. Also I find airports with little traffic to be just as effective as huge ones. If you go somewhere for a cheap weekend "somewhere out in the blue", there's always possible to find a nice resort not too far away from your destination airport.

One thing you should be extremely careful about is to read their terms of service carefully. If your luggage cabin is 1 millimeter too large, they will really make you pay for it. If your luggage cabin is one 1 gram too heavy, they will really make you pay for it. If you didn't print your boardingcard yourself, if you carry one extra plastic bag, etc., etc., etc.

If you can live with the above, and book quite early, you'll be very happy with their services, I guess.

Travelled many times with Ryan on the two hour flight from Stanstead to Girona ("near" Barcelona) and to Reus (seaside resort). Used to go on day trips to bring back a few months supply of cheap fags and have a nice day out.

They were remarkably cheap. Booking a few weeks in advance and avoiding the school hols, a few times we travelled for a penny (!) plus taxes so it cost about £25 GB£ plus a day's parking. Travelled with cabin luggage.

Always a bit of a scrum at the gate, so we found it worthwhile to pay a bit extra for priority boarding.

For 50-60 euros I'd expect to be dumped with the cargo!

Don't be too quick to knock these budget airlines. Once in the air, travel is no diff from economy class on the national carriers other than paying for meals or drinks. Comfort-wise identical.

I’m curious how they can do it and remain in business…

What are they cutting back on?

Genuine aircraft parts? Maintenance checks? Staff wages?

By ditching expensive overheads like free food and drink, only using the same type of airplanes to minimize maintenance, training and repair costs, and flying to airports with cheaper landing fees, the budget airlines have passed on huge savings to their customers. This business philosophy has been adopted by pretty much every budget airline around the world.

By selling tickets electronically online or via telephone, the budget airlines’ marketing costs are much lower too – no travel agent commissions to pay or paper tickets to print and post. Virtually all budget airlines use a system of dynamic pricing on their tickets, which means their prices change continually based on demand. Usually the further ahead you book a budget ticket, the cheaper it will be.

A cheaper flights would defo do me right, I aint rich and between holidays and visiting my family or the occasional (I want to do shopping long live Briton) Is a lot of travelling money that I would be gladly saving up for something different or simply would be able to take more holidays and weekends abroad ...

I cant knock it out yet specially I do not know the downside of it but so far it sound good for most people (except GR he fly private jets)
