So much for the myth that the settlers had become attached to Cyprus and that the poor buggers had nothing to return to etc. THey came for easy money and are now leaving for the same reason. They obviously retain their family ties and property in Turkey and can go back. Which they could have done under a settlement with the additional benefit of monetary compensation.

Anyone have TC press reactions to this development?

They leave and they do not come back”, Turkish Cypriot daily Star Kibris (05.03.12) reports about the entrance and the departure of persons from the illegal airports and ports of the occupation regime and writes that during January, more persons left the occupied area than the persons who entered it.

According to records by the self-styled ministry of public works and transportation, 84,386 persons entered the occupied area in January 2012 while 116,555 persons departed.

The discrepancy may not be as encouraging as it sounds, it could have been caused by overseas TC's visiting family and carpetbaggers visiting their illegal properties, for the Christmas/New Year holidays. The December figures could have been the other way round with their arrivals.
