Anyone who understands what the UN is all about will also know that it doesn’t just walk away because they’re “tired”! The republic PAYS THEM to mediate and is thus a customer.

Its over, 4 years of talks is enough to know we cannot find a solution.

In actuality the UN has been involved with Cyprus since 1963 so it's nothing new for them.

But anyway, if a UNSG was to ever make such a childish announcement one could easily embarrass them by reminding them of resolution 353!

The comments of that article are just dumb! The UN is not even allowed to exit Cyprus unless the RoC fails to renew their contract, or their life is in danger.

If the UN decide to pull out they will do it, this has nothing to do with GCs not can they stop them.

They are under contract, so I can't see how they can run away without seriously undermining their future as an international organization. :?

But anyway, the truth of the matter is that there is a huge discrepancy between the two sides… one is a community and the other a nation.

So can there ever be a compromise between a community and a nation just because another nation (Turkey) is blackmailing? Well, four decades on it doesn’t look like this strategy is working…

Except VP won't like this part at all!

Mutluyakali said that the Turkish Cypriots will be apportioned much of the blame for the end of the process.

“- The Turkish Cypriot leadership is continuously drowning in the details. It delays the achievement of progress. The process has come to the point of collapse and the Turkish Cypriot leadership will have important responsibility for this,” he wrote.

Which ever side is blamed the end result will be in a hardening of the TC stance towards two independent states, as I have been saying all along, thanks MR Davutoglu for backing me up.

Who's going to take Davutoglu seriously when he says this about Syria. Surely he does not want to be called a hypocrite when it comes to Cyprus, does he ?

If Damascus is attempting to divide Syria as a “Plan B” to deal with the current unrest, then Turkey will work to prevent that, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has said.
“If [Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad has a plan to divide the country, we will work to prevent that. If anyone has such a thing on their mind, all our efforts are to avert that,” Davutoğlu said yesterday in response to reports that Damascus’ “Plan B” was to establish a state for Nusayris, the sectarian group from which the al-Assad family is drawn.

The UN will go when the EU tells them it's ready, willing and able to take over and finally fight for freedom for the island.

Looks like the UN is here for ever then, as the EU is not about to fight for Cyprus or it would have done so by now.

Give it time. They need to see the outcome first before they act. It would be wrong to get stuck in, in the midst of the talks.

The article says it's about "to scrap Cyprus" and you say it's "here for ever". Talk about extremes. Both scare tactics, methinks. The reality is without doubt in the hands of the EU - which is why Turkey is so desperate to join, to disrupt any such rescue package. Cyprus is an asset to the EU and soon (if the US dollar stops trying to destroy us) they are going to be in a position to utilize those assets. Some 50 years the UN has had - maintaining the 'peace', perhaps, is all they can do. But Cyprus joined the EU because it needs something more and because therein we have access to bigger resources which Cyprus lacks - people power for liberation! :)
