this is a thread for dealing with Cypriot medal prospects and winners not those of other countries where if I may say (I hope without opening a flood gate) I think it was a pity that those citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who live in the illegally occupied zone were prevented by a foreign power, Turkey, from joining the officially recognised sporting organisations and participating in the games as members of the ROC team.

Indeed. Then maybe we would have 26 instead of 13 athletes in the Olympics and two medals instead of one one. We will never know though.

Well, for 2012 we are done. But for the next ones we are thinking of buying the guy below for 2million USD. What do you think PCB. Is he any good?

Mert Girmalegesse, formerly Shimelis Girma (Amharic), then Selim Bayrak (Turkish),[1] (born November 30, 1987) is an Ethiopian born Turkish middle and long distance track and field athlete, running in the disciplines of 3000 m, 5000 m and also 10000 m.
Born and raised in Ethiopia, he transferred to Turkey for an amount of US$1 million. On May 15, 2008, he received Turkish citizenship and changed his name to Selim Bayrak. Two years later, he took the name Mert and changed his surname to Gırmalegese, his family's name in Ethiopia. For the reason of the repeated name change he stated that he wants to safeguard interests in his country of origin.[2]

P.S. The only problem is he will have to change his name again, this time to, lets say Marios (from Mert) Shimelides or Girmalides?

And/Or maybe him:

Polat Kemboi Arıkan (born Paul Kipkosgei Kemboi on December 12, 1990 in Cheptıret, Kenya) is a Turkish long distance runner of Kenyan origin competing in the 3000 m and 5000 m events.[1] The 1.70 m (5.6 ft) tall athlete at 60 kg (130 lb) is a member of Enkaspor in Istanbul, where he is coached by Carol Santa.
He switched allegiance to Turkey on June 8, 2011, changing his name from Paul Kipkosgei Kemboi to Polat Kemboi Arıkan.

And/Or her?
