Venus and Jupiter Putting on a Show

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Feb 23, 2012 8:19 pm

Visible in London at the mo...

Look over towards the West and you'll see Jupiter, Venus (the brighter of the two) and a slither of the Moon ... all in a line in the same part of the sky.

Lovely image.

(Those in CY may have missed it for tonight so have a look at Dusk tomorrow and for the next few days)

Could this mean the end of the world?

I saw that too.

The Moon has now gone below the horizon, but in a couple of hours when Venus drops below the horizon, Jupiter will more or less be where Venus is now and if you turn around 180 degrees you should see Mars.

Oooooh ... will have a look at Mars later.

... but do keep an eye on Jupiter and Venus... they're gonna get closer and closer and closer together over the next few days.

Mars is looking spectacular at the moment in London.

The brightest thing in the Sky and unmistakenly red.

Well, there are five posts before this one. Four are informative, as a good post should be, yet the fifth is just nonsense, Can you spot it?

You sure that is not just an optical illusion caused by looking through your bloodshot eyes?

Pretty clear evening sky in London at the mo... Venus and Jupiter getting closer together towards the South-West, about two fingers of an outstretched arm apart.

:? Don’t tell me you stuck your arm out and put your fingers together to calculate the distance between them!

Oh yes... standard practise, the width of a finger, the palm etc of an outstretched arm to give an idea of distance.

A very bright Mars over in the east at the mo, with a def pinky-red colour, flashing a bit like a lighthouse in the moving air.
