:? Don’t tell me you stuck your arm out and put your fingers together to calculate the distance between them!

Oh yes... standard practise, the width of a finger, the palm etc of an outstretched arm to give an idea of distance.

A very bright Mars over in the east at the mo, with a def pinky-red colour, flashing a bit like a lighthouse in the moving air.

Sounds great if the planets were on the same axis but…Jupiter is so far away from Venus and on top of that the Earth travels in an elliptical path, so what kind of a meaningful value can your two fingers give you?

Ok already... ok.. Kyriallaison, ok... it's an apparent distance.... now if you'll excuse me, am pouring a Scotch... two fingers will do... for a start.

Have a look at this little drawing courtesy of Microsoft Paint!

When you put your two fingers together what your eyes can see as distance between them is the cyan line, but the reality of their distance is the orange line!

A minute later if you put your two fingers together again all that will change because you’ve traveled further along the elliptical line!

It’s a simple Pythagorean calculation of two right-angled triangles and a rate of change along an ellipse! :?

You wouldn't be able to make that calculation if it wasn't for the Greeks.

It’s nonsensical to assume he was Greek as no such thing as Greece or Greeks existed in 500BC!

Are you starting to get a feel of history that actually MAKES SENSE by applying COMMON SENSE as opposed to contemporary Greek utter NONSENSE?
