United federal Cyprus must be the solution, Cypriot youth say

Two youth organizations, one belonging to a Greek Cypriot party and the other to a Turkish Cypriot party, have expressed their support for the reunification of Cyprus, under a federal roof, saying this is the only solution for the country.

Only a United Federal Cyprus in the European Union could be the final solution of the Cyprus problem, AKEL's United Democratic Youth Organisation and the Youth Organisation of the Turkish Cypriot Republican party, declare to the United Nations and to all parties interested in the Cyprus issue.

In a joint declaration, which was read out at a press conference, EDON and Turkish Cypriot Republican party’s Youth Organisation express the position that the best time to proceed towards a federal solution to the Cyprus problem is now.

“The history of this country will be proud to write with capital letters about the reunification of the island”, the youth organizations point out.

In the declaration, they express their determination to continue their cooperation in order to reach a just, viable and functional solution to the Cyprus problem, which will respect the legal rights of the two communities in Cyprus.

In addition, they express their commitment to a peaceful solution on the basis of a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality as defined in the relevant UN resolutions, with a single sovereignty, citizenship and international personality, as described in the agreements of May 23 and July 1 of 2008 between Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot leader Talat and in the High Level Agreements of 1977-1979.

The two youth organizations also call the leaders of the two communities to show their full commitment to the convergences and agreements that have been achieved so far between the two communities.

Not for the moment VP, but it shows that the next generation of Cypriots (the current youth) are committed to reunification. The same cannot be said for the current generation.

If you get the opportunity to chat to the youth go ahead they dont give a fig about reunification and dont really care or understand why they should unite. There is a very small minority who may show signs of wanting a solution but this should not be confused with views of the majority.

and I guess your the representative of the majority? Yeah right? the Turk of Turkey is now telling the rest of us what the youth want. Their cause has been going for 90 days consecutive. Your just a sad individual filled with hate and can't even take a reflection of your own belief system

You are the one confused and in your own dream world of gayness, life is not like that or we would have united years ago. The hippies in Ledra St have nothing better to do with their lives and will not amount to anything. You have to understand that we count and you cannot push us to one side and force us into a situation where we are a minority amongst GCs.

Ps happy to declare that my gayness does not impact negatively on the lives of others but your Turkish occupation damages more than the GC's it does your own people in too. We do have people in the occupied area and we know of their struggles and their passion for peace.

It was like that all the time... the newborns are to come to an agreement for the Cyprob.
The newborns (1974 birth or later) never saw the war so somewhat easier to unify the island.

For us, the war survivors, the hard feelings are still alive and "fresh". We must die in order to remove the obstacle.
I reckon another 25-30 years from now is needed to "clear" the playing field.

When will you understand that Turkey is much preferred to you? we can live with you tomorrow if we wished but becoming a minority amongst GCs is not a desired state.
