It sounds like you’ve been caught completely unprepared for this and that’s no good for the kids so maybe you should return to your partner for the time being and then start preparing for a potential separation by getting a driver’s license, saving up some money, and generally becoming more independent for everyone’s sake.

I know that it’s the worse option for you right now but it may well be your ONLY option because that’s all you seem to have prepared for unfortunately! Please learn from your mistake and do it right this time, if you choose to go back or enter into another relationship.

You must have had good reason to seek sanctuary and it's great you have a friend to turn to for now.

Perhaps you can call the British High Commission for some help:

With THAT kind of response to civil (and perfectly sensible) advice, I do not hold up much hope for you on this forum, those few words might well contain the reason for your problems.

Sorry for your plight but sorrier for your children (and your ex), you may have presented yourself as an 'Essex Battleaxe', there are a few of them about.

As to HELP, it may transpire that these comments (coupled with a little attitude adjustment) will be the greatest you will ever receive.

Lectures? I see. Apologies, but we are limited to the type of "HELP" we can offer on a forum. It usually amounts to opinions and links to higher authorities that perhaps can help in the real world. Other than that, chances are your thread would have lost exposure through being ignored, hence, reducing your chances of someone seeing it who can offer you cheap accommodation.

(Another piece of advice you may not want to hear: best show your more reasonable side if you still want someone to offer you accommodation.)

The moral of this story is that people (especially women) must strive to become independent just in case it doesn’t work out with the person they’re with.

Independence is about having a set of wheels (even an old banger), and a source of income (no matter how small it is) so that your partner cannot dominate and abuse you.

Independence will boost your confidence, widen your options, and encourage respect from others including your spouse.

It’s unfortunate that those lacking the above fundamentals are often victims of abuse by power hungry arseholes who have no respect for the vulnerability of an abandoned wife/house keeper.

Encourage your daughters to become independent and never fall for men’s shallow promises of being “looked after” and shit like that because nothing lasts forever and they could be left out in the street!

The best person to look after you is… you!

This is taken from GR's speech he made to his first wife just before he kicked her out!

The reality is that once a woman becomes a mum, her priorities are her kids.

All these ideal options (available to men) to remain "with car" or financially independent might simply not be feasible for a mum.

It was with these in mind that I suggested the poster seek some help from the UK's High Commission. She's right that she doesn't need a lecture. And certainly not to be judged since we don't know what she had to put up with from the dad.
