An online campaign has been launched in London to ban advertising of the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime on London transport.
The Municipality of the Turkish occupied town of Morphou has expressed its thanks to Brian Coleman, London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, for his campaign to ban Pegasus Airlines advertising on London Transport relating to flights to northern Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus.
According to a press release issued by London Assembly Conservatives, Brian Coleman said: ''Many of my constituents are Greek Cypriot, and allowing these adverts to be put up on public transport is deeply offensive. Many families lost their homes when they were illegally taken after the invasion”.
“I have set up an online campaign to encourage Londoners to write to the Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy to voice their concerns and to call for the adverts to be removed”, he added.
Coleman noted that “transport for London should not be associated with such companies”, adding that “Greek Cypriots make up an important part of the London community, and deserve our support''.
The self-styled regime was created after the Turkish invasion of 1974 which led to the illegal confiscation of Greek Cypriot property, turning many families into refugees, the press release concludes.
In an announcement, Morphou Municipality expresses its thanks to Brian Coleman for his initiative, noting that Coleman is City Councilor in the Municipality of Barnet which is twinned with the occupied Municipality.
Brian Coleman, who has served in the past Mayor of Barnet, is a very good friend of Cyprus and he almost every year participates in anti-occupation events held every October.
“Initiatives such as these confirm that our struggle is not hopeless and give us strength to continue with even greater vigor our enlightenment campaign about the occupation of our country” the announcement concludes.
Bloody hypocrites .......... they put them there in the first place and now they put out a press release. At least Coleman has made it clear that the only reason he is doing this is because he has Greek speaking Cypriots in his electorate and therefore wants the votes. Typical of British politicians
