UN Spokesman repeats that the UN Secretary has full confidence with his Special Adviser assigned to help the two sides reach a solution. The UN has once again stressed that it has a full confidence with the UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor for Cyprus Alexander Downer.
It is the second time this week that the United Nations had expressed full confidence to the UN Special Envoy’s ongoing efforts to assist the two sides in Cyprus to reaching a solution.
Responding to a question as to whether the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon had received the letter of complaint sent by the Speaker of the Greek Cypriot House of Representatives Yannakis Omiru, the UN Spokesman Martin Nesirky repeated that the UN Secretary General has full confidence with Mr. Alexander Downer who has been assigned to assist the two sides reach a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus Problem.
“I have however no knowledge as to whether the letter was received” Nesirky added.
The Greek Cypriot House of Representatives had adopted a resolution accusing UN Special Adviser Alexander Downer of lacking credibility and of hampering the Cyprus negotiations.
The resolution, passed by unanimous vote, will be addressed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
