This area covers an underexplored zone of favourable stratigraphy on the southwest side of the Troodos Ophiolite Complex, much of which has received minor historical exploration. The Limni mine at the north end of the belt is a past producer and was one of the country's largest volcanogenic massive sulphide bodies.

...i know that some here will take it that there may be gold in their backyards.

,,,are there other gold mines in Cyprus; is this more news like the gaz which will change the social economy?

Prospecting for gold in a Paphos village

By Bejay Browne
Published on February 26, 2012

SIX women, all landowners, are due to sign an agreement with a Canadian-based mining company which hopes to prospect for gold in Arminou village in Paphos.

Mining company Northern Lion Gold Corporation is due to sign a mineral exploration agreement which is valid for an initial six month period, with the women who own a piece of land in Arminou.

Northern Lion will prospect for gold on the land which is referred to as the St Nikolas project, subject to the go ahead being granted by the TSX Venture Exchange.

The company has announced that initial studies in the area have born “highly promising” results. Northern Lion Gold Corp. is a Canadian mineral exploration company, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange and the Frankfurt Exchange.

Cypriot authorities have already granted permission for the company to carry out research of the land using various methods including, aerial electromagnetic and aeromagnetic geological studies.

Arminou is situated 5 km north of Salamiou village and has a small disused copper mine. The village has seen a rapid population decline in the last 50 or so years.

After airborne geophysical surveys in Arminou in 2011, the Canadian company discovered gold assays of up to 49.5grms per ton.

According to the president of the company, John Lando, Northern Lion also has the option to extend the mineral exploration agreement for a further six months.

The St Nikolas project is part of the company’s existing land package of 20 permits, which covers an area of approximately 54 square kilometres in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos.

Northern Lion Gold Corp.is focused on building a portfolio of projects in Europe which includes a number of exploration licences in Cyprus, where they say they are currently “actively pursuing under-explored Copper-Gold opportunities”. The spiralling price of gold in recent years has encouraged mining companies to reinvestigate the extraction of gold in quantities previously considered too small to extract

Minerals such as copper, gold and other metals have long been exploited in Cyprus, dating as far back as the Bronze Age.

Northern Lion Intersects Gold Bearing Massive Sulphides at Pano Lefkara; Airborne Survey Identifies 3.2 km Long Geophysical Anomaly in Western Permits, Republic of Cyprus

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 17, 2012) - Northern Lion Gold Corp. (the "Company" or "Northern Lion") (TSX VENTURE:NL)(FRANKFURT:N3E) announces that rotary drilling has encountered gold bearing massive sulphides at Pano Lefkara and geophysical targets have been identified from the interpretation of an airborne survey flown over two areas of western Cyprus. These results and targets warrant a follow up drill program.

Drilling Update

Two rotary drill holes have been completed at the Pano Lefkara permit with gold bearing massive sulphide mineralization being encountered. The Company utilizes the rotary drill as a prospecting tool to aid in outlining the lateral extent and the level of mineralization of buried targets. Both drill holes encountered massive sulfide mineralization; however due to possible down-hole contamination only the first samples are reported:
PLRD12-01 - 3 metres of 4.98 g/t gold, 29.60 g/t silver, 3.75% copper, 2.47% zinc.
PLRD12-02 - 3 metres of 1.98 g/t gold, 10.80 g/t silver, 0.67% copper, 1.45% zinc.

Estimated thickness of the zones range between 8 and 27 metres based on visual estimates of the rotary drill chips.

Previous exploration work at Pano Lefkara by the Company returned rock chip sample lines of 41 metres averaging 3.47 g/t gold, 25 metres averaging 1.10 g/t gold, and 24.5 metres averaging 1.06 g/t gold (reported April 25, 2012). The Company also has plans to drill the Tourounja prospect on the Kato Lefkara permit, where a rock chip sample from a gossan returned 31.5 metres averaging 3.08 g/t gold (reported April 25, 2012).

Airborne Targets

The geophysical anomalies were interpreted by Condor Consulting Inc. The survey was flown by Geotech Airborne Malta, Ltd. and consisted of a Versatile Time-Domain Electromagnetic ("VTEM") and aeromagnetics survey and was designed to identify buried massive sulphide targets in underexplored areas of western Cyprus (reported February 7, 2012).

The survey has identified high priority targets in two areas of the geophysical survey. The Lysos target area hosts a cluster of seven anomalies, where the largest anomaly covers an area over 3.2 kilometres long. The geology of this area includes discrete outcrops of limestone which can be associated with paleobasins that form above compacting massive sulphide mounds. This is similar to what occurred at the past producing Kynousa Mine and also at the largest operating mine in Cyprus, Skouriotissa. The Kynousa target is located in an area of historic copper production and also contains limestone outcrops. The results of the airborne program are available on the Company's website at http://www.northernliongold.com.

The Company's field activities in Cyprus are under the direction of Robert Johnston, P.Geo. (BC), and "qualified person", as defined by National Instrument 43-101. Mr. Johnston is responsible for the technical content of this news release.

About Northern Lion

Northern Lion is committed to building a strong portfolio of projects within mining-friendly and infrastructure-rich areas of Europe. Northern Lion currently controls over 60 km2 of exploration permits in the Republic of Cyprus and is actively pursuing other opportunities within the region.

The surface exploration project at Mavroyi began in March of this year and was composed of detailed mapping of the area and a ground geophysical programme which consisted of gravity and Induced Polarzation ("IP") surveys over the prospective area. As well, data from previous geophysical surveys; the 2011 Versatile Time-Domain Electromagnetic survey, flown by Geotech Airborne Malta (reported December 7, 2011), and the 2013 AMT survey data (reported October 10, 2013) was also revisited and reprocessed. A compilation of all of the geophysical data was completed and reinterpreted.

An IP and ground magnetic survey was also conducted at Pano Lefkara
