Cyprus citizenship.

Postby krishni_cy » Sun Feb 05, 2012 11:02 pm

I am a Sri Lankan. I have been in Cyprus for 9 years and have applied for citizenship on 3rd March 2011 when I was working. Now I have married a British citizen in August 2011 and have my yellow slip (MEU2) can anyone advise me if my original application will stand.
Regards,
Krishni.

Go to the UK then you should apply for British citizenship.

Thank you, my idea is to stay in Cyprus and would like to obtain a Cyprus passport.
Do you have a phone number of the relevant migration person ?
I also need to change the address of my original application.

Krishni.

Have you been in Cyprus continually during those 9 years and under what capacity? In any case even if you are eligible for citizenship it will take a lot more than a year. I have some Russian friends who were living in Cyprus for about 15 years and then it took them about 4 years from the time they applied until they got the Cyprus citizenship. And they have property and business in Cyprus. It will be easier for you to get the British citizenship since your husband is British.

Yes, I have been in Cyprus for the last 9 years continuously, I have been told that my application will sit dormant for 3 years before it is even considered, do you think this is true ?
As regards UK citizenship again I am told that I have to live in the UK for 3 years, but I don't want to move from Cyprus.
My husband has a limited company here and properties. I don't know how it will helps for my citizenship.
I applied for my citizenship before I married, is it still valid ?
Kind regards,
Krishni

We’re not immigration officers here so stop asking us immigration related questions! We are Cypriots who have never had the need to use our own immigration department for obvious reasons.

You people write about all this “MU1” and other numbers and we don’t know what the hell you’re talking about!

I was hoping that maybe one of the forum members would be a retired immigration officer or someone with experience of these matters.
