Very good. See, now we are getting somewhere. What I am trying to do is help with your confusion. I wasn't insulting you when i called you a foreigner. The fact is you live in Australia and served for Australia for 12 years. Now go to an Australian forum. Okay, take care.

That should apply to you who should go to the Greek Forum. You see, I am an Australian citizen, and a Cypriot citizen as well, and I am far more loyal to Cyprus than you are regardless of whether you were a conscript or not because my loyalties lie with Cyprus and not Greece. We you are born and where you live has NOTHING to do with it!

And now let me ask you a question. If service in the CNG was voluntary, would you volunteer or do you consider it an imposition?

Tell ur friend Downer to put another shrimp on the barbie.

He doesn't have a problem with shrimp on the barbie I am sure. He also doesn't have an interest in scatology so no matter how you dice your onions he will always be twice the man you are. In fact I am probably being too kind to you.

You don't even stack up one iota!

Oh well.

I am sure he can handle himself. He shrugs shit like that off, and gets on with the job.

Your scatology is a bit beneath him really! He is an Australian diplomat, and a very experienced politician. He is the kind of politician that Cyprus lacks unfortunately!

His administration in Australia was considered by many analysts to be the best and most successful.

For sure there are some "men" here, claiming 'Cypriotness', who will NEVER be assimilated with Greece! For example, those with serious identity issues. Born abroad, schooled abroad, claiming Cypriot Nationality through mummy and daddy (easy peasy paperwork), whilst shirking the CNG (or the sister equivalent in Greece).

To get back on the original track. What steps of assimilation are there in the south which can be compared to what has been going on in the north? What degree of control has Greece got over the south that would enable it to even think of pushing any kind of active assimilation?

If there is a charge you can make against Greece is that it hid behind the slogan "Cyprus decides, Greece stands in solidarity" to shirk off its responsibilities as guarantor power.

As for double union coming about via "assimilation" of the two communities by their respective motherlands, this is against long standing Turkish policy. Since the days of Ecevit and even before, they feared double union because it would make Greece a Middle Eastern Power. It is interesting that now it is Israel who is pressing Greece to take a more active part in the area, initially by a tripartite collaboration over oil and gas. Judging by reports in the Greek press it is a move that the Greeks are not too willing to make.

So where are the signs of assimilation?
