That's right. Even Greece could have said OXI to the RoC's accession if they wanted.

Come now boys and girls, don’t be bashful and GET STUCK INTO A LITTLE READING FOR ONCE!!!

It took me just seconds to track down something relevant…

In the economic field, developments since 1993 confirm that the Cyprus economy possesses the ability to adapt to the challenges posed by the adoption of the acquis and that the authorities appear committed to restoring a stable macro-economic environment and a favourable business climate. As a result of the characteristics of the country, notably its insularity and the continuous wage pressures and wage rigidity (also related to the full employment situation), Cyprus has in recent years lost competitiveness in traditional sectors (industry and tourism). This is also reflected in the declining trend of domestic exports to the EU. But the importance of the tertiary sector has continued to increase, while efforts have been made to reduce the overdependence of the economy on tourism. This trend can be expected to continue. The most notable development has been the large and growing importance of the international business sector, in particular the international banking sector. It will be important to ensure that the sector’s activities are in line with the acquis.

HERE'S AN ASSIGNMENT FOR EVERYONE:

FIND JUST ONE REASON WHY CYPRUS WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE EU!

If there's one thing I really despise is a liar!

But your links do not support this. Kikapu has also pointed out their inadequacy for drawing such a conclusion.

The question is, did Greece play a part for the European Council in maintaining that stance throughout RoC's accession process.?

You obviously haven't looked hard enough.

The wheeling and dealing on how the RoC reached to that stage where she would be guaranteed a EU membership by the European Council is not discussed in your links as far as I know.

Well why don't you provide that then? :?

Well, if you disagree that your comments suggested such a thing, then since Cyprus didn't meet the criteria of being 'unified' for entrance (see quote of 2003 from your link), then the other evidence, from Piratis, that it was helped by Greece is still valid.

There was no such criteria. I don't know where you got that from!

As for Piratis... he hasn't provided anything that qualifies as evidence. Not by my standards anyway.

I got it from the europa link you provided:

Günter Verheugen said : « There is a window of opportunity for a united Cyprus joining the European Union by 1 May 2004. The Commission is ready to assist any further efforts to contribute to a comprehensive settlement on the basis of the UN plan, which remains on the table.
