"Despite the fact that the status of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) remains open, the Turkish Army that brilliantly conducted the operation must be commended."

I thought the Russians were your mates?

He’s not Russian but an illiterate Uzbek who has never laid eyes on the US Senate’s 1974 report “COSTS OF THE INVASION TO TURKEY”…

"Nearly 10% of Turkey's military force is now stationed on Cyprus, and there have been heavy logistical and support requirements. Civilian "technicians" and others have also gone to the island. Moreover, there were considerable losses during the invasion. According to responsible military sources in the field, the performance of Turkey's armed forces during the first phase of the invasion was very poor. Although Turkey apparently employed a basic plan its general staff had drafted and perfected over a period of several years, military observers say there was poor operational planning, inadequate communications, and a near total failure of joint operations among Turkish air, sea, and ground forces.

As a result, through tactical errors Turkey lost an estimated 15 aircraft during the invasion. It sank one of its own destroyers. Casualties were considered light, but included some 300 men killed and another 500 wounded. Had there been any substantial Greek Cypriot forces and tanks in the northern part of the island, casualties undoubtedly would have been considerably higher. One military observer suggested, for example, that because the Turkish airborne assault came at too high an altitude, a better organized and equipped Greek Cypriot army could have easily eliminated an entire Turkish airborne regiment swinging helplessly in the air.”

The article's last line is also noteworthy…

“Today, Russia should pay special attention to its southern borders, where the powerful Turkish army is located.”

Good luck Uzbeki boy…

1 nuclear drop will ruin the day for the Turkish Army, despite what the article wrote.

So Turkey's military achievements has ONLY been against little Cyprus in 1974. WOW! Turkey of course was meant to come as a guarantor power to protect Cyprus and not as an enemy force. The fact that Turkey double crossed Cyprus is not mentioned in the article.

I hate to think what would happen if Turkey really went to war against with someone her own size and not against helpless "midgets".

A conclusion after reading the article's last line maybe?

“Today, Russia should pay special attention to its southern borders, where the powerful Turkish army is located.”

Or maybe you didn’t get that far because you already had a premature ejaculation running down your pants and rushed off to post it…

This is not the issue here. The issue is the stance of Pravda on the matter.

It is NOT Pravda’s stance but a Muslim Uzbek’s poor translation into English of an article that went from 4 pages to half a page!

It reads like a warning; it forewarns everyone how destructive the Turks can be. The article builds up the potential threat and reminds readers that Turkey is so close. Why would any other country want an army like Turkey's around? Time to destroy them and feel more glorious because they were, after all, so powerful.

"Russia should be concerned about the strengthened power of the Turkish army"

Go get 'em Russia!
