How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Yeah, nice guy.

MS / As Sadik also mentioned the Armenian tragedy(let's call it that for now till experts and historians work out exactly what it was) happened long before Ataturk came to power in 1923.From 1919 onwards he was the commander-in-chief of the forces trying to liberate Anatolia from the Allies. There are many versions of what happened between 1919 and 1923,and the Turkish version naturally does not show Ataturk in a negative light.Personally,I cannot believe that innocent Greeks or Armenians had not suffered during the War of Liberation as it is now known. My knowledge of the ''ethnic cleansing" is very limited to knowing that whole populations were exchanged under some agreement.Sadik might like to shed more light on this issue.

AC/ I am slowly digesting the contents of that site. There is so much to read, isn't there?
I had no doubt the conference would happen once Erdogan and Gul spoke in favour of it.I have'nt had the time to follow up what's been happening at the conference though.Lets hope nothing will be swept under the carpet, and people will have the courage to face the past.As you know well, there is a lot of pain and bitterness that needs to be acknowledged before we can move forward. I am keeping my fingers crossed.Sadik is right when he says this is a very important step for Turkey. Erdogan is taking a big risk standing up to the ultra nationalists,he needs our support and encouragement.

Erdogan, though he has a dodgy past, has some good intentions..better than the kemalist and ciler/ecevit mafia that stole turkey and fucked the working class. Nevertheless, i believe that it is time for erdogan to make some elections. He' ll win easily and with a large margin that will authorize him to clear up the militheads and the bureacrats from the state and move ahead with more changes.

Hey, Sadik and Birk. Thank you for your positive comments on the matter. I admire both of you for attempting to discuss this in a civil manner. I know that Erdogan really took a chance standing up for the rights of this confrence to happen. I must say I view him in a very positive light. I really believe that he is trying to resolve alot of issues that former leaders have allways tried to bury under the rug.
