TAKSIM is the only solution

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby BirKibrisli » Fri Sep 23, 2005 4:45 pm

Alexis,I agree with you Partition will only bring more bitterness and resentment, and keep most of us who live abroad pining for our country away. Those who say Partition will bring peace probably mean we won't get a chance to kill each other if we live apart. But what kind of peace is that?An imaginary peace,I suppose. It would be much better if we all worked hard to remove the reasons why we might want to harm each other. But that is too difficult and it does not suit the interests of those big boys who like to see us divided and conquered. But because something is difficult it doesn't mean we should not attempt it.The longer the de facto partition continues the more damage is done to Cyprus (its people, its environment, its economy, its historical relics etc) I don't know what is happening in the South, but the North from what I can gather from 20,000 km away is suffering from overpopulation, overdevelopment, moral and economic decline, which are leading to its "Cypriotness" stripped away from it in increasing speed. The economic miracle of the construction industry is a mirage. The profits are leaving the island as soon as they are made, and the construction workers are those poor souls from Turkey who are paid peanuts to labour like slaves day in day out.The biggest money spinning industry in the North is the gambling industry whose employees are 95% non-Cypriots.Followed closely by the sex industry whose workers again are mostly foreigners. You will not hear these truths said in this forum by TCs.That is why some people think I must be a GC in disguise. If that was the case I would wear it as a badge of honour, and would not need to disguise myself. But I am proud of being a Cypriot of Turkish origin who believes that truth and justice must prevail in any lasting solution to the Cyprus problem.Truth is like the Sun,you cannot cover it by paint or plaster. It will shine through however long it takes. To my Cypriot brothers of Armenian origin I will say the same thing. Whatever the truth is (and I don't know what it is) it will come our eventually. If the genocide claims are true, and I am still alive,I will be the first one to publically appologise on behalf of the Turkish nation, whatever that is worth. All I ask in the meantime is to keep an open mind, and don't hate a whole nation for the possible wrongs done by our ancestors.

thats is sth not that easy birkibrisly.
yestarday a friend came from cyprus. he came hier for a visit.
we started talking about politcs etc, etc,
he began by saying "i am not a racist, the borders just exist in our minds"
then as the discussion moves from cyprus to greece and i was presenting the tcs views or bulgarian views (without saying that i accept them) he was getting more and more irritated and nationalistic. lets say i was just provoking by giving the opposite sides arguement (it is really fun to do that :))
at the peak of his anger, suddenly he got it. alone!!! without me even saying anything. he said: but why do i get that angry? these things belong to the past. all i care about is my job, and my children the same way like any tc or bulgarian. but it seems that we have things deep rooted inside us and it doesnt take much to bring them out.

i am wondering if he would still have got it if he would be in a discussion with a tc...
i really hope he would...

Thank you for your kind words, Birkibrisli. Just so those Turks that arent aware the Kurdish Community has apologised for there role in the Genocide and nothing was asked from them. Peace of mind was more then enough.

Yes,Cypezokyli,it is not easy to strip away what essentially is in our subconscience. It seems to come naturally to us to have an enemy we can safely hate. The key is, as you imply, in getting to know each other, and in realising that we are the same. And I don't just mean TCs and GCs who are one people sharing a common gene pool, but also you and me and say the African- American. What colour is their blood? Don't they hurt like us for the same reasons? The fear of the stranger (Xenophobia, that lovely Greek word) seems to be an inane need in most people, except when they are little. So it is a learned thing which can be unlearned.Your friend certainly seems to have the potential to unlearn. Why don't you invite him to join the forum?
I'll have to say goodnight now,it is 3.12am Saturday morning in the land of Oz.Don't ask why I am still up.I don't have an answer. :D

Allright, I will admit that what happened in Nagorno- Karabagh was really a peace operation to prevent another Genocide from occuring and right now they have trade relations with 3 countries plus thanks to Azeri governments policy on Cyprus soon to be 5. :D
