Now for more lessons ...........

I am not interested! I said previously I won’t get involved in discussing Cyprus and/or its problems, you have clearly demonstrated why!

I suggest maybe we should stick to original thread, that being ‘The impending war against Iran’. I do know a bit about Iran and as the threat emanates from the US and Israel which in the same context I also know something about, the inclusion of Cyprus and/or the Cyprus problem is not remotely part of the equation. So, thank you for the offer but I don’t think you can teach me very much on the subject of the thread.

So are they engaging us in a ménage a trois with Turkey bearing in mind they have not delineated an EEZ with Turkey, either, or for that matter other neighbours?

I in fact suspect the reason , my dear, that they have not declared an EEZ with Cyprus is that bearing in mind the Turkish, Greek and Cypriot EEZ all meet and there is, shall we say an element of debate at least in the view of the Tur*s, over where those boundaries fall, this must involve delimitation of the EEZ with Turkey, something I suspect Greece is unwilling to do ...

Greece and Cyprus have a continuous EEZ:

According to published maps, Jerusalem recognizes the Greek Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which is the continuation of the Cypriot EEZ.

Turkey, with the support of the UK, has isolated Cyprus from Greece, precisely so that the continuous EEZ of Cyprus and Greece is prematurely truncated in places that suit Turkey.

This is behind the reason for (people like you) continually saying Cyprus is not Greek! It limits the offshore resources of both Cyprus and Greece and allows others to have access to resources that would belong to the Hellenes.

That is not correct. The EEZ is defineable by principals set out in UNCLOS which Greece has not availed itself of, and where whether Greece and Cyprus were one state or as they are two states the boundaries with Turkey would still be the same using the median distance rules.. There is no impact on what resources belong to Turkey, and what does not.

I by the way do not support GR's attempt to pejoratively describe the Greeks as Gypsies.. An insult to both

You have to be pretty dim to think this because if Greece do not officially delineare with the RoC then there is no EEZ claim and Turkey is free to do what it wants and even drill and explore for hydrocarbons.

We need to clear up one or two things on this EEZ business...

CY has declared an all round EEZ including in its northern waters and in the waters out to the west

It did this way back in 2004 with a law passed in the CY Parliament which staked out its max UNCLOS entitlement.

The CY National Law with its claim has been duly lodged with the UNCLOS Registry at the UN ... http://www.un.org/depts/los/LEGISLATION ... mation.pdf

... and of course it has since then gone on and reached agreements with some of its neighbours as to the precise geographical location of the median points and these agreements with the co-ordinates of the mid-points are again lodged with the UN UNCLOS Registry.

... but , but, but... a claim, a declaration through national legislation is all it takes to stake out an EEZ.

(oh... and Greece may have done similar... http://www.ypeka.gr/LinkClick.aspx?file ... uage=en-US )

oh.. oh... and CY also lodged this lovely map of CY with the UNCLOS Registry as far back as 1996.

It shows what are called the "baselines" , the lines drawn around the CY coast in a dull red, from which the EEZ is calculated... including the northern coast...

oh...oh...oh...and when Turkey over-stepped UNCLOS and customary international law, which it did a couple of years ago with those ridiculously worthless agreements with itself through "trnc" to grab CY's northern waters...

... CY again repeated its claim to an UNCLOS-max EEZ in its northern waters up to the usual median points...
