Kimon,

The "Greek" alphabet was invented on Cyprus and was a refined version of all previous attempts made by Cypriots including the ancient Cypriot script. This all happened at a time when Greeks were completely illiterate… a period referred to as the Greek “dark ages”!

The ancient Cypriot civilization is THOUSANDS of years older than anything Greek ever came into existence.

So the ancient Cypriots who as you say were not Greek made an alphabet and scripts to write Greek :? You are not making any sense. If they were not Greek and they were speaking some other language then wouldn't they make scripts and alphabet to write that other language? Since Cypriots were using the Greek alphabet and script to write Greek it means their language was Greek... because they were Greek!!! I can't believe I really have to write such obvious things!!!

It's not making sense to you because you are deceived by the contemporary label "Greek" that the language is called by today.

The label doesn't matter. It is the same with "Cyprus", "Cypriot" "Cypriot Script" ... they were not called like that back then! What matters is that it is the same language that people in mainland Greece and other Greek islands were using. It was not a language that existed just in Cyprus. So why would people in Cyprus use a language that was used in mainland Greece and other Greek islands if they were not Greek themselves?
