Speeding ticket on the North

Postby Selena79 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:55 pm

I was about to cross the greenline when i was told that I cannot do so unless i pay my police fine for speeding on the north of cyprus. The fine is heavy and it is 3 years old. I go quite often to the north but this is the first time it popped up in the system.

Anyone had a similar issue? How can i make them prove that i indeed was speeding? Are they short on budget and it is a new trick to milk the unaware cow?

Use the Zohdia (Güzelyurt) crossing point, they will not be connected to the police system for another year.

Why are you so keen to go to the "North"?

I'm afraid you can do nothing but pay the fine, same thing happened to me a18 months ago, the fine is recorded against your passport details as well as the vehicle. They won't accept payment in Euro's.
If it's that important.....cough up.

I really don't see how anyone who lives in the legitimate area of Cyprus could visit the enemy in the occupied territory. A bit like spitting in every Cypriot's face. But if you're evading a speeding fine says a lot about you anyway.

What are you saying, that you did not get a speeding ticket/camera flash 3 years ago and that it is all a fabrication by the north or perhaps mistaken identity, unlucky you, or you did in fact get a speeding ticket/camera flash and that you have not paid for it and instead have been ignoring it for the past 3 years, in which case, you should pay up if you still want to go the north.

Which is it?

1. I want them to prove it because it can be a mistake. I am going quite often and i am wondering why it took them 3 years to put it in the system??? I cannot recall being flashed or anything like that, so it is simply WEIRD that they come up with it after 3 years and they cant even prove it.

2. The question was how can i cross without paying (since they couldnt prove it when i asked). If they prove it then i will consider if its worth for me or not.

3. CBBB thanks for the short and useful answer!

4. Johbee and Greekislandgirl: If you have nothing useful to add to this topic but to (try to) provoke a useless virtual discussion why not to go to the north then i have a suggestion for you: Go and get a life. A real one.
