What changed in 1965 was Britain's attitude towards Cyprus. They were even contemplating abandoning the SBAs back then, and also by 1964, the Americans had a policy of supporting the self determination of small colonies like Cyprus. Everything changes Piratis, and nothing stays the same. The worth of Cyprus' strategic importance also changes. Also, a British FM was quoted to have said that if the Cypriots waited until 1964/1965, they would have been granted independence (real independence). I think I read this in O'Malley's book.

Also, I don't hear many people coming out saying they are Greek these days. Sorry! But it is to be expected. And I guarantee you, that in a generation or 2, no one will be saying it, and by that time Greece might not even exist. They are so far ahead of the political curve!
