That is yet another indication that you are not representative of the Cypriot population. The streets were packed with people celebrating moments after Greece won the Euro.

first of you have no fucking clue what the hell is happening down here so you comment really is of no substance...

what i do see you are also in favour of the greek flag flying when it should be the cypriot flag huh?...your silence on this is very defeaning mate...what happen?..are you ok with the greeks stealing our identity in front of the whole world...what's the matter with you?....what are you an identity assassin?...

i am not happy with the greeks stealing my identity...I am a cypriot...

I know what is happening in Cyprus and you know what is happening in Australia. Fair?

Our identity is Greek, and those who are trying to assassinate our identity are the British and the Turks. You are one of the victims, not much unlike YFred that you talked about earlier.

mate how can i be a victim when i know who i am?...man can't get any clearer than this...so i reckon you better stop this coz doesn't matter how many times you say it, it's gonna dog yeah...get it?...

no one is assasinating anyone piratis except you...if anything the brits divided us with this bullshit... ...i was born in cyprus thus i am a cypriot...

now again i am going to pose the same question to you that you refuse to answer...
are you happy the greeks are stealing our thunder in front of the whole wide world?...

and here another one for you piratis...

So anybody that came from Anatolia or the Levant to Cyprus before Greeks came is automatically "indigenous" even if their history in Cyprus is shorter than the 3000+ years that Greeks existed on this island. Is that what you are saying?

isn't what we tell the tourists?... ...or are we bullshiting them too?...

Piratis wrote:Now you are being very silly. Does it really matter that the Sotirans came after? The point being, Cyprus already had a thriving indigenous population well before 1100BC.

Piratis wrote:So anybody that came from Anatolia or the Levant to Cyprus before Greeks came is automatically "indigenous" even if their history in Cyprus is shorter than the 3000+ years that Greeks existed on this island. Is that what you are saying?

And according to you even though the Chirokitians and the Sotirans came to Cyprus in different times and shared nothing in common, they are both indigenous Cypriots, but Greeks somehow can not be indegenous to Cyprus. Is that right?

Know the Greeks that allegedly came in 1100BC are not indigenous. The indigenous are those that were already here by at least 10,000BC and maybe even earlier.

And since we are referring to other peoples such as the Sotirans and Phoenicians, then how on earth can we be Greek and not Cypriot?

You mean if you are from Tasmania?

You are now being extremely daft Piratis, and childish!

Piratis wrote:No, I mean the Kangaroo Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_Island

Are they of the "Kangaroo Ethnicity" there? Should every island really have a different ethnicity?

Well well, I see you know a bit about Australian Geography. Well done.

To answer your question, Kangaroo Island is part of Australia, and so the inhabitants are Australian. Just like the inhabitants of Cyprus are Cypriot. What else can they be?

So what? They don't need to be sovereign, but they may as well be.

Piratis wrote:No mate. Only a small weak country would accept part of its territory to come under the sovereignty of somebody else. And that is exactly what the British and the Turks wanted us to be. A small weak separate country that they could continue to abuse. The Americans have bases in Crete but they are not sovereign. The Greek people have the right to close down those bases. This right was removed from us and the British took full control of 2 parts of our island.

We were made to accept the terms given to us Piratis because we were silly enough to fight a superpower. I will not knock the sacrifice made of many brave EOKA, but the alternative was to request independence and offer the UK 2 bases on lease that are not sovereign. Obviously, in 1955 they would refuse, but by 1965 they would not refuse and they would have given us that independence.

I think you should stop speaking for others, because sure as hell, you will get hurt in the wrong hood!

Piratis wrote:I think you should follow your own advice and talk for yourself ;) Your views on this issue are not at all representative of the majority of the Cypriot population.

So far, only you have spoken up about the "Hellenic" thesis. I think it is you that is in the minority I'm afraid, because every time I visit Cyprus I don't see these Hellenic hang ups you portray.

this brainwashing started the day greek teachers and text books came from greece during the early days of the republic...and it seems it still continues...especially history...tell me is any text book having the turks winning?...i mean come on the owned a lot of territorry...greek history only concentrates in little scuffles here and there till 1821...i heard a story the greeks had the turks surrounded in the acropolis and gave them bullets so they wouldn't melt the metal and destroy the acropolis so they kept shooting at each other...from a history teacher at a party in oz...bloody hell vivid imagination or what...

None of those mistreatments that you talk about came from us. On the contrary we were mistreated by others, but most of us managed to maintain our identity. If you didn't, thats too bad for you as you were one of the victims.

boomerang, my identity didn't come from any books. I have the same identity as my parents, grand-parents, great-grandparents etc. I have no problem that your identity is different than mine in some way. But you need to understand that your ethnic identity is not representative of the majority of the population in Cyprus. Thats all I am saying.

Beyond that what I want for Cyprus is for Cypriots to be free to choose democratically what they want for their own island. I do not accept that some foreigners should tell us what to do. If we want to have a separate country, a separate national anthemn, to create a separate ethnicity etc, that should be OUR decision that should come out of our free will. Not something imposed by foreigners, not something done to please others, but something that is of our own totally free choice.

boomerang, if there is somebody who has been brainwashed that is you. A couple more generations and you will be fully assimilated. Your great-grandchildren will not even know where Cyprus is. The same goes for Paphitis.

So I suggest you stop trying to give to me lessons of Cypriotness.

ok you are keeping me up now...

your identity piratis came exactly from books...coz you great great grandparents didn't have a clue who they were...just lucky to edge a living...for starters the village idiot told them who they were...in other words piratis your great great greatgrandparents couldn't think for themselves not alone make decisions, unless of course you are a descendant from a pasha and that would make you a turk in your books...get it?...

you would think in this day and age after all the schooling you did you can't accept the fact that books, comments, surveys and everything under the sun has an agenda...you are are not even questioning this...like sheep huh?...

the question here remains piratis how many times you gonna get fucked before you say ouch?...

and you still avoiding if you are in favour of greeks stealing our identity in front of the whole wide world...

as for you second paragraph, i agree with what you say with the exemption if we want to be a separate country...we are a separate country...never forget this...hence we are cypriots...

It's also like some TCs actually believe they are Turkish, when in actual fact they are Cypriot Muslim converts during the Ottoman period and are not Turkish at all.

They too were told by their parents and grandparents etc.
