In what must be a last ditch effort to rescue the talks from the time-wasting and generally obstructive demands of Eroglu/Turkey, Pres X suggested direct 2-way talks between the Republic and Turkey in Ankara.

Pres X said he would go to Ankara at any time if the Turkish Premier Erdogan invited him.

Turkey has predictably rejected the offer of this fresh approach to try and salvage the talks with an insistence that Eroglu be present even though You'll Get Nothing Out of Me Eroglu has been present at countless Get Nowhere Meetings with Pres X.

Well Mr Downer will not obviously do anything about it because he only hears when GC's talk about the injustice of the Turkish occupation and the lack of support given by the UN.

Is it a surprise? Not really. The only one's that can change the status quo are the dumb arsed TC's who obviously enjoy all the benefits of the EU at the expense of their compatriots I think we need to take drastic action in retaliation and block off all crossings and not allow illegal residents of the occupied area to cross for work, Should only limit access to medical situations.

Christofias could have agreed with Talat but chose not to. Now he has to go to NY and come away with nothing or agree with Eroglu. There are no other choices.

Negotiate with Turkey? what for? are they going to be more favourable? I think not.
