Name change for the "trnc"?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Name change for the "trnc"?

Postby kimon07 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 7:25 pm

According to Milliyet (google translation sorry):

Dervis Eroglu announced that "....in the absence of a new constitution in 2012, new laws will continue on the road, the government announced the name change even..."

to "the North Cyprus Turkish State" or "Turkish Cypriot State". I really don't know how accurately the translation gives the two versions of the "new" name (Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Devleti“ - “Kıbrıs Türk Devleti" in turkish)

http://dunya.milliyet.com.tr/kktc-nin-y ... efault.htm

As the Greek, site from where I got the link to Milliyet notes, Erdogan does not like the word "Republic" in the name (I wonder why 8) ) and wants it changed to "State".

The “Kıbrıs Türk Devleti" translates as " Cyprus Turkish State/ Turkish Cyprus State" and not as you posted "Turkish Cypriot State". The word "Cypriot" is not mentioned.

I think they want to try and make it as if Federation has taken place and make believe that the BBF has been agreed to, based on 2004 Annan Plan, of course. Much like as it was before 1983 when the "trnc" was introduced. So it might mean that Turkey will not recognise the north as a country any longer and instead, recognise both the north and the south as Turkish and Greek states of Cyprus respectively. This will make it easier for Turkey to make the claim to the EU that she now recognises the Greek state so to open the closed EU accession chapters, as well as open her ports for ALL Cypriot ships and planes . The expectation would be of course, that the north will also get direct trade from the EU and the world. This will also make it easier for the north to put claims for the Gas & Oil wealth recently discovered, AND, allow Turkey to make the claim that Eroglu to take over the EU Presidency with Christofias on a rotation basis since there are now two equal states in Cyprus. However, Turkey and Eroglu would also claim that the "Separate but Equal" policy will of course remain between the "2 states" until there is a formal settlement.

I don't know if this was the Plan B,C,D or E that Bagis was talking about if the present talks failed, which it seem to be doing just that.

I am most interested to know why they retain 'Cyprus' in their pseudonyms.

Anyone have any ideas?

The tortured logic of Turkish diplomace Kikapu lays out is so perverse and illogical, and that probably means that he is right. It is just the kind of twisted take on reality which is increasingly evident in the Turkish view of the world.

There was a similar twisted version of the Turkish intepretation of the law of the sea recently. Turkey has the largest sea coast in the eastern Med, so it is entitled to a proportional share of the EEZ and not what is carved out by applying the equidistant principle embodied in the law of the sea. But, when it comes to the Aegean where Greece has ten times the Turkish coast line, Turkey says it is a different case, not at all like the eastern Med. And when one points out the Black Sea deals which do follow the law of the sea, then they say that is different yet again because it is a closed sea.

End game: what is mine is mine, and what is yours is also mine is the dominant principle and one which has been applied to Cyprus from the start.

There is only one way to end this kind of crazy talk. A loud, clear and unambiguous BUGGER OFF.

Nikitas,

I knew of all people, you would "understand" the Turkish logic as I've wrote it.

an accurate name would be something like National Assembly of Turkish (speaking) Cypriots.

...somehow the "S" is a magic charm, when added to the word state, it speaks volumes as to motive, and it implies that the governance of the people in the north is acting in Ignorance, thinking that the definition of the word, State, can be suspended by them in their relations with the rest of the world, their corruption will be accepted (internally and externally) by the granduer of their tone.

...poor Talat, remember how he was humiliated by the advice he got; "President" (not), at the Grand Prix.

asiktir indeed, mf(plural) are mofos playing a thousand different games so that in one or two of them they'll win.

...Eroglu will have to face elections at some point, this act likely results in war, soon the opposition will rally, and if this is an election platform, "Statehood", then we'll hope that their democracy will clearly demonstrate a People's will. Popcorn?; i'm hiding under a good thick table. "they" may be told to wise-up instead, brinkmanship needs patience, something like what happened with the gay/criminal thingy; not a good idea make it go away, less said the better.

...in any case it is up to Erdogan and his Foreign Policy, whether he is ready now to take on the Occidental world or not, whether elections will even be allowed now that the Army is under his control.

...simple, Cypriot is not there because "they" do not exist.

Cyprus exists, they recognise that, and it is on their Continental Shelf, theirs to do what they like with by geography and convention, theirs because the Treaty of Lausanne was theft obtained under duress, theirs because their Sovereignty is proven as the original Agreement was a Lease.

Very interesting posts and explanations. And thanks for the enlightening and very essential correction to the "terminology" of my post which was not actually mine but Googles :D
Now. I suspect that Erdogan wants to use the term "State" instead of "Republic" in order to pass a message or two to the inhabitants of that "state" but also to third parties. That they will be dealing with a "State" rather deep, I would say, and not a European style "Republic" which refers much to democracy. A puppet "State", administered and controlled by the Deep Mafia State of Turkey and which will BELONG to Turkey because it will be TURKISH and not Turkish Cypriot and don't anyone make any mistake about that.

In any event, I do not think that the change of the name can influence how the UN and the EU will regard and treat this regime. No one can change the fact that there is only ONE State on Cyprus and that neither the international Law nor the European one offers any room for it's recognition. And there is no way that the UN will legitimize the results of the invasion and the occupation, unless WE commit suicide by accepting a solution similar to the Annan Plan.

I blame the TC's for all this and they have gotten exactly what they deserve. Isolation and domination by Turkey where the settlers will soon outnumber them in every domain. No compassion on this subject.

Hello RW and Happy New Year, dear. :)

I failed to convey my point. I have some suspicions as to why the Turks maintain the name "Cyprus" - or even "Cypriot" in their sobriquet (or should I say nom de guerre) for the occupied territory. It lends them some degree of recognition, or legitimacy basing their pseudonym on a pre-existing sovereignty - bit like 'Pepsi' Cola riding on Coca Cola or even when the Turks adopted the name "Pegasus" for their doomed (I hope) airline ...

We need to expose their complete and utter Turkishness in this occupation!

- It's the Turkish Occupied Territory.
