As the Greek Cypriot president announced the size of a natural gas field in the eastern Mediterranean, experts said the field was sufficient to meet Greek Cyprus’ energy demand for 240 years but can only meet six months of Europe’s demand, daily Hürriyet reported yesterday.......

Kimon, why are you making a new thread rather than posting this story in one of the numerous other gas threads? It just clutters up the place.
This is also a silly story from the Turkish press. These so-called "experts" are from the Turkish state oil company TPAO who yesterday returned from the Black Sea having failed to discover any gas during their exploration. It's in their interests to downplay the discovery of gas off the coast of Cyprus.
By any stretch this is is a major discovery from just one well in one of the Cypriot fields which in itself covers Cyprus's energy needs for two and a half centuries. The amount of reserves in other blocks of the EEZ has yet to be determined. But this is an encouraging first step according to most (non-Turkish) experts.
