Why is Downer’s warning being ignored?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The CyProb has clearly evolved into a matter of Cyprus Vs Turkey and not a GCs vs TCs as Bananiot still seems to think. These are important issues that cannot be ignored if one is to tackle the CyProb seriously.

Then your problems are far greater than you could have imagined.

This is the root of the problem in my honest opinion.

Makarios had more credibility than any Turkish Cypriot politician, like the opposition uprising eventually had in libya against Gaddafi and his loyalists.

Parody : the Greek Cypriots were the libyan opposition, the Turkish Cypriots were Gaddafi loyalists. If it was any other way, the west would have helped the Greek Cypriots finish the job, however, they settled for giving the Greek Cypriots full recognision instead and allowed you to be saved from annihilation.

Word of warning to those that do not learn from history: Makarios thought he could get something more in 1973 when he rejected the comprehensive solution agreed by all parties that basically gave him the 13 changes he was after. If today we decide again that we can get something more than BBF we would be putting our neck to the sword. Only this time we have nothing more to lose, besides everything. Granting political equality to the TC's is the only way forward and GR can go back to the drawing board because he has forgotten to look at the way the UN defined political equality of the communities.

The answers we got from those that bothered to comment so far, reveal their true colours. They can only just bear TC's in Cyprus as a sorry minority and nothing more. This has been tried before and look where it got us. It is really pathetic to go on the same path again, all by ourselves, without understanding the drawbacks and risks of such asks.

Another thing: These people have a Turk in their brain who constantly pesters them and perhaps renders them unable to think rationally. At the same time, they consciously define Turkey as their enemy and practically send messages to the TC's of the type: When Turkey disintegrates (they are absolutely sure of this, it is written in the scriptures and our policies must evolve around the scriptures) we will take care of you. Messages such as this were sent during the period 1955-1963 and the effect was to alienate the TC's from the GC community that chose a path the TC's not only were afraid of, but greatly despised (with some justification). Now, we have gone a step forward. According to GR TC's do not exist! They are Turks of Cyprus, imish. Since we did not succeed in the 60s to do away with them, we can now simply switch them off our minds and practically this is the same thing, as though they do not exist.

How convenient GR! No Turkish Cypriots, only Turks live in Cyprus and of course the next question would be: What in hell are they doing here? GR you have really lost it and it is getting worse.

These are my thoughts as we welcome 2012 and while thinking that all my life has been spent in the shadows of the Cyprob that has itself overshadowed all healthy political life in this island.

I am reminded of some fable whereby a cruel 'master' was whipping a poor horse during its uphill struggle, burdened with a heavy load, when a passer-by exclaimed with distress "why are you whipping the poor, struggling horse?". Whereby the cruel 'master' retorted, "because he had the audacity to be born a horse!"

Do you know the "poetic" name of a horse?

Feel free to regale us with the Turkish point of view - no doubt, similar to Viewpoint's "donkey" - rather than our historical, winged, Pegasus.

Can we have a little sincerity from the Turkish camp?

Be my guest and quote the section that validates your theories from the...

Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities

http://www2.ohchr.org/english/law/minorities.htm

The indigenous Cypriots are the most dominant and influential just as nature intended it Bananiot, so if anything it is you and all Turks that need to digest some hard facts because despite Turkey’s 400+ year attempts to ethnically cleanse Cyprus from its indigenous population they have failed miserably and now even risk being financially and politically overrun by a bunch of islanders!

According to GR TC's do not exist! They are Turks of Cyprus, imish. Since we did not succeed in the 60s to do away with them, we can now simply switch them off our minds and practically this is the same thing, as though they do not exist

That's something you'll have to take up with Turkey for it was their plan and execution to abolish the “Turkish Cypriot” label. If your friends in the “TRNC” are not complaining about it why are you?

Political equality in any Democratic Country is one person = one vote. Anything less than this discriminates against majority populations in Cyprus
