Too grandeur for the Cypriot mentality.

They'd rather build a row of 4 floor commie blocks and a periptero instead.. if I had to guess.

this particular scheme has been discussed several times here - it is supposedly philanthropic but I suspect it is an excuse to acommercial complex in an area of very pleasant countryside where permission would not normally be granted to bild since alongside the statue (for which I suspect an excuse may arise not to build it) there are plans for cafes, hotels, etc.
