The flower metaphor doesn't work because one flower can not jump in the pot of another and take it over 
Patriotism is not when say your "pot" is better but when you defend your "pot" from foreign invaders. If the Turks had stayed in their own "pot" there wouldn't be a Cyprus Problem. But no, they wanted to take ours!
