Well done to France! A victory for freedom and the obligation of all nations to own up to the atrocities of the past.

Holocaust denial is a continuation of genocide. It is time for Turkey to put its bloody past behind it, face up to the reality of its crimes, apologise and make recompense to all the victims of Turkey's vicious genocidal nationalism: Armenians, Greeks, Kurds and Greek Cypriots.

Don't get too excited, colostomy bag...Only something like 70 mps voted out of some 570...This will never get through the French Senate...Election of no election...Sarkozy or no Sarkozy...What this will do is to give more ammunition to Turkish nationalists, and make it more difficult for Turkey to finally do the right thing by the Armenian people...You are not concerned about that ,of course...You just want to pour shit over Turkey at every opportunity to advance your own onesided arguments over Cyprus...You are shameless!!!

Do you think we might tone down the insults a bit please Bir. Not pleasant mate. Thank you.

But it is not upto parliaments in unrelated countries to decide what did or did not happen in history...And if we believe in freedom of speech as a fundamental human right,we must condemn any attempt to limit it...

It is also deplorable that some of you here are using other people's pain and suffering to further your own twisted cause...Let Turkish,Armenian and International historians decide what took place in the past..Let us concentrate on our little bloody problem...It will not go away if we ignore it ...

This has nothing to do with the Cyprus problem, granted, but everything to do with Turkey who has and continues to be problematic for all her neighbours. If she does not recognise anything, then you can bet your bottom dollar that the she has not learnt anything either, which in turn may set a precedent for her to repeat the same mistakes.

Turkey uses other peoples pain and suffering to further her own cause, does she not? (think about it). The thing with Turkey is, she cant point a finger and accuse anyone of of anything without 5 fingers being pointed back at her.

Maximus, every nation on earth uses whatever they have at their disposal to advance their own causes...My point is,this opportunistic bill will set back the Armenian cause not advance it....Turkey will simply clamp up,go into a defensive mood, and refuse to discuss the issue in her own parliament where it should be discussed...Some Turkish Armenians, like Hrant Dink's brother, are already saying this openly... :(

What a load of crap! Anyone familiar with the Turkish treatment of its Kurdish population and the occupation of northern Cyprus would recognise that Turkish crimes against humanity are not simply a part of Turkish history. They are still going on. Turkey should do the right thing and acknowledge its crimes against the Armenians. It should also acknowledge its crimes against the Greeks and Kurds in Asia Minor and its current crimes against the Greek Cypriots who it expelled from the north of Cyprus and whose presence it strives to eradicate on an ongoing basis.

There is no qualitative difference between the Turkish attempt to eradicate the presence of Armenians in its Eastern provinces in 1915 and the ongoing attempt to ethnically cleanse all trace of the Greek Cypriots from northern Cyprus. Only a hypocrite and a shameless apologist for Turkey's genocidal crimes would think otherwise. I'm not interested in how "hard" it is for Turkey to discuss the issue. It's time it faced up to its genocidal history. How much time dies it need? It's nonsense. If Turks need to be shamed into facing their crimes then so be it. Let them be shamed!

On the contrary. In a democratic International Society, it is exclusively up to the parliaments of ALL free and democratic countries, and NOT up to administrations or single politicians of individual countries, to RECOGNIZE (not decide) what really happened in history, based on true facts. The parliaments of Free Countries who recognize world crimes (such as the Turkish invasion in Cyprus) are not "unrelated" but on the contrary, are obliged to act in such manner in relation to International problems and international tragedies and crimes under the International Law and the principles of the United Nations. After all, that is the reason of even the existence of the International Court for war crimes and cimes against Humanity. They are also entitled and obliged to impose penalties. It is the prohibition and the criminalization of the doubt and of the contradiction by citizens that I dispute.

It will set the Armenian cause back by decades, because it will fuel Turkish nationalism, and make it more difficult for the Turkish parliament to ...

You seem to know a lot about Turkish nationalism and let me tell you, if you represent a Cypriot dove in the north ... forget it! There will never be peace on this island. Period. We here do not care what fuels Turkish nationalism for we no longer reside under the Ottomans but in a democratic country where we can praise or curse laws that are passed ... it is our right to do so.

You don't get it ,do you???
This will only set the Armenian cause back,by making it impossible for Turkey to openly discuss the issue in their own parliament...I know the Turkish psyche better than you...You don't get the Turks to do anything by showing them a stick...By threats or outside interference...You need to use a gently gently approach, and with time and patience they will come to the party...This way they will only shut the doors and windows and carry on as before...

I promised Bill I would not insult you any more....So don't push your luck!!!

So the Turkish perpetrators of this genocide are really upset. I wonder why. Let's see what the victims of the Armenian genocide think. Have the Turks thought to ask them?

In a written statement issued just minutes after the bill’s adoption by the French National Assembly, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said France has “once again proved its commitment to human values.”

“On this occasion, I would like to once again express gratitude to France’s supreme leadership, the National Assembly and all French people,” he said.

“Having recognized the Armenian Genocide with a law ten years ago, the French people have demonstrated that human rights are a supreme value. And by adopting this bill today they have reaffirmed that statutes of limitations do not extend to crimes against humanity and that their denial is subject to unequivocal condemnation,” added Nalbandian.

Erm...

As well as the recall of the Turkish Ambassador in Paris reported earlier, so that out of 27 EU member states, Turkey now doesn't have diplomatic relations with two of them as well as none with Israel)...

According to the French news agency AFP, the passing of the Bill have prompted angry crowds to gather in Ankara, who as we can imagine are of the ugly, angry nationalist, "homeland-loving" type, who have been shouting...

"We have not committed genocide, we defended the homeland."

and very damnably, they do seem to be threatening France with some kind of physical attack...

"Wait for us France, we will come."

Turkey, ever the reliable ally, has also banned French war-planes and warships from its territory.

Some people say it is their right to express an opinion without being threatened with prison...But that is not your concern at the moment...Like it is not your concern that this bill will set the Armenian cause back...You just want to praise any law passed anywhere that might give you comfort in your own twisted,one-sided mind...I got it now,thanks... 8)

Think,Bill...think....If Turkey is fighting with more and more EU countries, and realise she will never be admitted to the EU come what may, would that help solve the Cyprus problem???
