So this EU Human rights does not really amount to much does it. Not worth the paper it is written on. Perhaps it is good for one thing ...........

What rights my naive friend? It's uncostitutional for a TC to vote a GC candidate (and vice versa).

He tried to register in the correct place and was denied due to the constitution, this was deemed illegal before but the GCs continue to impose it.

Isn't unconstitutional for TCs to vote GC candidates?

Yep... wouldn't think it was 2011 would you?... think that is more or less the case, but the last time this chap went before the ECHR in a matter concerning General/Presidential elections, although the Court was sympathetic to the disorder/withdrawal from gov post-1963 and the difficulties this caused the Republic in voting matters, the ECHR took the over-riding view in a judgment that arrangements had to be made for people in these grey areas not to be denied a vote.

We also def need more information on this current matter, much more info.

Thanks for the info Bill. BTW this is not in line with the Annan plan, i.e. Bizonal Bicommunal Federation. :?
Excellent! :D

So EU human rights law does not apply in Cyprus then? Were the Armenians allowed to vote?

halil
let and see what AKEL will say about it ? i am sure all votes were going to AKEL

I had to re-read the post Apologies halil.

Bottom line is if these people are living in the RoC and identify as Cypriot they should be allowed to vote. Aziz should take his case to ECHR and I hope he is successful.

B52 TC's in the free area have obviously made a decision to either stay in the Free area and / or identify as Cypriot. They do not hold us hostage or violate our human rights. I think the distinction needs to be made clear.

Christofias then needs to ensure all Cypriot citizens are given equal rights. he then needs to set up a meeting with Ban Ki Moon and give him the facts. Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, The UN has condemned this action and the TC leader is not willing to move towards Reunification, therefore we need assistance and support just like they have given to Afghanistan to free the nation from a Third nations military occupation.

He should also stop meeting at the UN w/ Eroglu that will piss the Turks off to the maxxxxx

Aziz has never left his place of birth. The nationalists in the north consider him a traitor and they had a price for his head. He was a close friend of Kavazoglu and Mishiaoulis. He does not dare venture to the north. The nationalists in the south are no different that those of the north.

Yes we got used to misinformation in this forum.
HERE's THE TRUTH BEHIND THE STORY

From here:
http://www.elections2011.pio.gov.cy/pli ... voters.htm

533,778 registered voters (including 569 Kibrislis-compared to about 300 in 2006) +12,333 EU citizens.
Also from the same page :ESPECIALLY FOR THE VILLAGE OF POTAMIA THERE WILL BE ELECTIONS FOR 2 SEPARATE MUNICIPAL COUNCILS one Kibrisli and one for Kypreoi joined in a form of a union to one Municipal Council.

Other information from here:
http://www.ekloges2011.gov.cy/turkish_voters.htm
http://www.ekloges2011.gov.cy/turkish_voters_tr.htm

In Potamia there have been 25 Registered Kibrisli voters. HOWEVER the few Kibrislis living there have agreed between them in advance and they named one person ONLY for Muhtar + 4 others for Municipal members. All of them were nominated without elections because there were no other candidates, and all positions were filled up.
The same happened in MANY other small Kypreoi villages as well... It is not unusual.. Therefore the Kibrisli voters in Potamia including the very respactable person Mr Imbrahim Asiz, did not have the chance to vote...

Imbrahim Azis'es ACTUAL complain is similar to his complain that he filed at the ECHR a few years ago. That separation of the people in Cyprus between Kibrislis and Kypreoi is racist. And I fully agree with him. He went on to comment if this is what we really want in Cyprus?
Aziz says both Kibrislis and Kypreoi and EU nationals should be able to vote together for all the candidates. FYI there are about 380 Registered Kypreoi voters in Potamia also.

Does VP, Halil et al agree with him yes or no?

But he did this before and all the RoC got was a small fine and cost paid to Mr Aziz. Is this the kind of European rights that will protect all our citizens. All those here who go on about how bad Annan plan was for not respecting Greek Cypriot's Human rights should hang their heads in shame, instead they get cocky drunk on emotion of hatred like a headless chicken that has just lost its head. Have you ever seen one or did you think chickens in supermarkets grow on trees.
