I think we have enough trade with you. We are selling you our tomatoes isn't that enough?

Reh Dorth Shitpriot... not so long ago "you" were trying to sell "us" your potatoes in shipments of several times "your" annual production.

Hope "your" tomatoes are coming from the Occupied Areas and not from Jurkey.

No, they managed to do that themselves.

yes and with all that European funds. Greece is a bad joke.

You did not answer the question.

why not?

Turkey is doing just fine. Grew 3 times in 10 years while Greece is the failure of European project.

...look back before the Euro, you will find that Greece was quite the darling, just like Turkey today.

But, Turkey, or shall i say Erdogan (and Gul), is quick to throw stones; what comes around goes around.

Turkey's favourite champion for its EU accession, Cameron, has just thrown a spanner in the works and is moving away from the EU. How will this impact on the Turks and Cyprus. Will Erdo and co have to try even harder now to to gain admission, will they feel obliged to make concessions to the ROC?

Europe is going to be preoccupied with its own problems for some time, if the Turkish economy goes tits up it will need help from outside. Arrogant statements like "But Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan brushed off the pessimistic review, saying the IMF would have to revise its projections" show how the Turks have lost touch with reality. It is this arrogance that led them to occupy Cyprus in the belief that one day the civilised world would have to accept Turkey's dirty deed because of that country's new found economic might. I think an impoverished Turkey will find it has few friends in Europe - it could be a good thing for an energy rich Cyprus though.

I agree with this. The whole basis for Britain's support of Turkey's EU accession was that enlargement of the EU would undermine France and Germany and make the EU come to the UK's way of thinking. Instead Britain has been outsmarted and pushed to the edges. Turkey's EU accession has become a whole lot harder and has probably gone down the tubes unless Turkey starts to do as its told. The EU will not make concessions to Turkey. Cyprus's gas is also a factor for the EU to back Cyprus especially once the Turkish economic bubble bursts.

Totally agree. The only reason the UK (or should I say 'England'?) backs Turkey's accession to the EU is to destabilise the construct. The UK has been in collusion with the USA to force the EU to consider Turkey because the Euro is the only major competitor to the dollar. But Cameron just found out he has no clout! What a great shame for the British population and their holidays abroad.

Cameron and Erdogan have sooo much in common - maybe they can form their very own Union, for trade exchange, workers etc. (import more exploding Turkish fridges to the UK  ).

Speaking of exploding fridges - Ironically, the Brits and Turks conniving in the 50s to keep Cyprus isolated from Greece have been hoisted by their own petard as far as effectively giving the Greek-speaking peoples more leverage with vetoing in the EU. If only the RoC had made it to the EU before the UK then we could have had some bargaining chips regarding the SBAs too.

actually you may not be far off RW, when the US and Europe are becoming self sufficient in hydrocarbons petro and natural gas, it could mean that after an attack on Iran any threat by the Iranians to close the straits of hormuz will be brushed aside by the usa and the west and Iran bombed into the stone age....get some butter with that popcorn will ya!
