...And Finally... Greece To Drill in the Med!

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:35 am

According to DefenceGreece, Greece is pressing ahead with exploiting its natural off-shore resources. We heard a few weeks ago of moves in the Ionian. Now movement in the Med.

Greece to seek interest for three drilling licenses from oil/gas companies for exploratory drilling in blocks south of Crete within 90 days.

The Israeli firm Dalek, which has an interest in the CY Aphrodite field will be in Athens this week for discussions with Gr government on the exploration of the waters south of Crete.

More at ... http://www.defencegreece.com/index.php/ ... in-greece/

( A reminder that there are favourable prospects. The geological formations that are producing gas in Israeli waters extend through the waters off the CY south coast and reach to the waters south of Crete.)

Some more on oil and gas exploration in the waters off Greece...

Addressing a parliament commission, as Athens News Agency reports, Maniatis said that the ministry will know in the next 12 months with precision, where and how many hydrocarbon lies in a field in southern Crete, while he reassured that sea tourism would not be affected by the project in the region. Referring to the three fields that the government plans to hold an international tender, the minister said that a first estimate for the field in the Patras Gulf was 200 million barrels and stressed that the other two fields in Ioannina and Katakolo could offer greater surprises. ''We have a difficult road ahead to creating a positive investment climate,'' Maniatis said and reassured that research in all three regions with copper fields, worth an estimated 2.5 billion euros, will begin this month.

Greece doesn't have the balls to confront Turkish hollow threats let alone a real one, so I don’t see Greece drilling for anything other than hot air!

Perhaps you should at least give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see, then you can offer them as many shiskies as you like :D

I think they have just a s good a chance as Cyprus , the distance is not that great that they will not be able to find anything. Perhaps the reserves may be not as high as the lower Med but surely there will be something. Similar with Cyprus and the occupied territory. it is likely that if Turkey had the power to drill on the northern coast of Cyprus they may find something, given that there are reserves in EEZ of the island south of the free areas.

I don't need to B25 because I've already read about all the desperate agreements Greece has made with Turkey in the last 12 months, including many Aegean islands hooking up to the Turkish mobile phone network!

Soon Greece will appoint a Turkish vice president with veto power!
