Total nonsense. There around 120000-150000 at best estimate. And there is not even enough work for them. Have you even been to the north recently? It's a wasteland! Do you know the unemployment rate in the north? It's catastrophic. The north can barely support its current population. You really are so totally deluded I can only think it must be the medication talking!

Yeah, the medication you have forgotten to take today...

And one more thing, where do you stand on your friend VP's statement regarding living in a Greek language free country? I can dig his comment up if you like? I believe it went something like " I don't want my children growing up in a country where Greek is spoken."

Why cant i have the right to raise my children in a mainly Turkish speaking environment? whats so wrong about this desire? what gives you GCs that right and not me?

You got to be joking, right, VP?

The fact that you cannot see the racism in your statement is very frightening.

It must come natural to you.

You are not concerned with any other languages spoken around your children, just Greek, and then you want to have 50% power on top of it in Cyprus while you don't want the GCs around you, and you expect the GCs to give it to you in a undemocratic system for you to be racists towards them in their own country.

Good luck!

You are the one claiming there are a million settlers in the "trnc". Have you been there recently? It's deserted. Where are the millions of settlers hiding? You are plucking out numbers out of thin air and then claiming these invisible settlers will have millions of invisible jobs who will then overwhelm the free areas with their invisible factories producing invisible smog and pollution. Your posts are becoming more hysterical as the chances of your preferred solution slips away once more. You have to resort to silly threats based on bizarre future scenarios in order to convince us. It's just not serious.

Good work, B25. A census is clearly not needed. Are you sure that VP is a TC though and not a gypsy? That would make Halil the Last of the Mohicans...

Hermes has assumed the role of Eroglu (Denktash and the rest) on this one. GC politicians persevere to convince the world that there are at least 500 000 settlers now in the north and base much of their strategy on this, while TC politicians who do not care much about solution, chuckle and say ... exactly what Hermes says! I think I know why, but I do not want to throw "banana oil" into the fire.

Don't be ridiculous. The last estimates based on the 2006 "census" in the north was 265,000 - roughly divided equally between TCs and settlers. The RoC government estimate for 2001 was 200,000 with a 55-45 % settler majority. The ICG in 2010 estimated a current population of 300,000 with around 150,000 TCs.

For the last "Presidential election" in 2010 the official figures showed that Eroglu won with a total vote of 60,000. Yes that's right - 60,000 out of an electorate of around twice that. That should tell you something.

I'm glad you're learning something here. It makes a change! As much as some like to think there are 500,000 - or in Bir's case 1,000,000 settlers in the north, there is little to justify such claims. Neither would I subscribe to the official TC view that there is no population problem in the occupied areas. Evidence suggests a growing conflict between dwindling numbers of TCs and a majority settler population. I don't expect the new census will prove much either way seeing as how few trust the motives and methodology. If the goal was to establish the true facts why are the Turkish authorities so reluctant to have the data verified by the UN?
