Back to the "Last Chance" policy.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How will the Settlers come to the free areas to overrun us? If it was that easy then the Turks would have overrun Greece long time ago. We might be overrun by other EU nationals that can come here as they like, we might be overrun by Russians and others whom we welcome. The Turks are the last ones who can overrun the free part of Cyprus. Probably the free part of Cyprus has the least ammount of Turks compared to any other part of Europe.

You really haven't been paying attention. There is no chance for such a "solution". No RoC President would even consider it never mind put it to a referendum. Turkey cannot impose such a solution and the GCs will never endorse it. It's really over, Bir. You're going to have to do much, much better than that. Now go away and see if you can't think of something!

Flippant and nonsensical doesn't do it justice! So it's come to this: we either accept a solution on Turkey's terms right now or Turkey will take over the whole island in fifty years. That is your "compromise solution"? That is what you offer us? Where did you learn these negotiating tactics from? "The Godfather" movies? God give me strength!

And you are surprised that we are taking your generous offer and telling you to shove it in a place where it really hurts? Please stop bothering us with your ridiculous offers, Bir. I was always taught to respect my elders but you are forcing me to reconsider my normal good manners.

Turkey is satisfied with nothing short of partition that would officially make the north part of Cyprus Turkish while giving to Turkey the power to control the whole of Cyprus via her well known puppets. Not only this is worst than what we have today, but it would also make it easier for Turkey to Turkify the whole island if she decided to do so in the future. Today Turkey has no excuse to act on the threats that Bir dishes out. But under an Annan plan kind of "solution" it would be the easiest thing for the puppets of Turkey to create deadlocks and conflicts, like they did in 63, and offer to Turkey a cheap excuse yet again.

The Cyprus problem can not be solved with the current balance of power. What we should do is maintain our rights over the north part of our island, build alliances, do what we can to push Turkey as far from the West as possible, and wait until a solution becomes possible.

And if the GCs are foolish enough to follow Piratis' reasoning you will condemn yourselves to become an irrelevant thorn in the Turkish backside forever...Turkey does not need to do anything...Time and natural progression and selection will be enough...When it is obvious there will be no solution Turkey will lean on her friends and allies in the world to a Taiwan like recognition for the trnc...The rest will follow as night follows day...Don't ever say Bir didnt warn you...

Bir, what you don't understand is that even in this worst case scenario (best case scenario for you), the alternative of what you offer is far worst.

If we follow your advice the north part of Cyprus will be immediately and officially be recognized as a Turkish state and the Turkish puppets will have the power to control the whole of Cyprus.

Therefore it is your reasoning which is foolish. My reasoning gives to us the best possible outcome, which at worst we would at least keep what we have and not suffer further losses, and at best we can liberate the remaining 3rd of Cyprus when the time is right.

How will this be possible in a BBF? if that is the case TCs will oppose this because if we agree a partnership with GCs they will not want Turkey to meddle in our agreed affairs.

Therefore it is your reasoning which is foolish. My reasoning gives to us the best possible outcome, which at worst we would at least keep what we have and not suffer further losses, and at best we can liberate the remaining 3rd of Cyprus when the time is right.

Which will be never, if the TCs+Turks do not agree you will never get anything in fact you may even lose everything you have.

Who is the 'we'? You don't count, you have no say, you are a lost cause. You are still wet dreaming VP. Turkey is calling all the shots here, not you , not the TCs, not even Eroglu, but Turkey. This is the crux of your problem, but you are too blind to see it. With turkey still here, we are going nowhere, well you're not we have a bright future to look forward to, thanks. Now go cry to mama.

We as in those that will decide in a referendum in the north be it old or new generation TCs. But i do agree with you that over time you will not even have anyone in the north to talk to you as no one will have any real memory or ties with the south of GCs, so as another Turkish saying quite rightly states "avcunu yalarsın'

Hermes, there is nothing else...this is the compromise solution....take it or leave it...
It is not what I would've wished for my country, but we must face the realities...There is no other way of reducing the number of Turkish soldiers and settlers...If you don't agree to this compromise solution now it will be fait accompli...All of cyprus will come under Turkish dominance within 50 years...By then there will be no EU to protect you...You will be swollowed up like a morsel of bread....Keep being obstinate at your peril...

You’re just too few to be worth such radical changes and unfortunately FAR too Turkish to be Cypriot (as VP explained in another thread), and we just don’t want to become part of Turkey which is how we would end up if we give her a portion of Cyprus on a plate!

Sorry mate…

In a relationship what do they call this… too much baggage? Well in your case you’ve got containers full of baggage!

You are being paranoid,Piratis...If there is a BBF and a strong central government, how will Turkey control the whole of Cyprus???? I know you have been harping on this, but I fail to see your reasoning...Please,take the time to outline the process by which Turkey can influence the whole of Cyprus via her puppets,as you say...Let us see if steps can be taken to address your concerns...Imagine we have agreed to a BBF,we have a federal government controlling immigration, defence, foreign affairs, treasury etc...Tell me how Turkey can subvert this system...

What chances do a handful of converted “Turkish Cypriots” have against an overwhelming majority of mainland Turks in this BBF you guys fantasize about?

Piratis is correct as it would be the equivalent of Turkey running the show!

Let’s face it… in your haste to increase in numbers so as to catch up with the GCs, you ended up vanishing!
