We could always accept their theory that the RoC got in because they’re more clever than Turkey which can’t, but that would be tantamount to cheap credit!

:? Then why is the whole of Cyprus in the European Union while the whole of Turkey isn't?

asian half country is christian. Does that ring any bells? Plus being naturally in Europe does not necessarily mean being in EU: Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, Russia ..............

In the same token, do you see any non European countries in the EU?

helsingfors wrote:just the half country.

If you keep repeating that nonsense, you are going to sound just as foolish as Gül does. It's like calling a hole, half a hole. No such term exists.

helsingfors wrote:and we all know how they became EU members: by Greece blackmailing the EU that they will veto other candidates. We all know how Greece entered EU zone as well without meeting the criteria.

What does it matter how Cyprus got in.

Actually it matters. No. 1 criteria for being eligible for EU membership: having land in Europe. And Greece was not eligible for Eurozone either. These tell a lot about how credible is EU. Now a small geography question for you: Which of the below is not in Europe?

a.Pristina
b.Skodra
c.Limassol
d.Edirne
e.Ohrid

The predominant property of what constitutes “European” is cultural, but you seem to put a lot of weight on the geographical aspect.

For those who still wonder what Europe really is just think… “Holy Roman Empire”!

As I've stated before, that Turkey's best chance in becoming an EU member even after solving the Cyprus issues, is for her to become a "half country". The western part of Turkey should be able to fit in with the rest of the EU in about 10 years. The eastern part of Turkey will need another 100 years, so why keep it. Turkey should do herself a favour and let loose the eastern part in order for her to develop the western part.

Wrong answer. Kosovo, Albania, Turkey and Macedonia all have land in Europe and Limassol is out of the map.

Yes, I can see where you're going... Europe doesn't seem to have such an issue with the western part of Turkey but the east is so full of challenges.

And honestly, I wish I could say my country is so clever that they fooled the EU but alas… we had to go through years of crap too!

When it comes to ascertaining Turkey’s position in the EU, one need only ask…

Is it possible for the Ottomans to join the Holy Roman Empire?

And there you will find your answer!
