An action event planned by the occupiers outside the buffer zone tomorrow night, Sat 17th starting at 6pm. Described as "An Intervention in the Streets".

The occupiers write...

..."We will create two banners and open them up in selected locations, on the North and South of our town simultaneously. Leaflets and Poster of the movement will be distributed in the streets.

We need people from both sides of the divided island!

We will gather at 6:00pm at the occupation camp."...

Couple of bits of info that may be of interest from the Occupation of the Buffer Zone...

Patrick Dewhurst, correspondent for the CY Mail, has spent a night with the occupation and writes about it. Amongst other matters, he reports on the lengthy discusions that are at the centre of decision-making, the organisation of the site and the ambiguous position of the UN, on the one hand tolerating the protest whilst at the same time acting to confine the occupation.

On the UN, PD reports that... "UN Spokesman Michel Bonnardeaux said: “We continue to say they are unauthorised... but we sympathise with their goal. We are not the target, and we continue to tolerate and monitor their presence.”

On the aims of the protest, PD also reports... "Yet since it began, the movement has had a goal: to highlight the occupation of Cyprus with their own occupation. As one activist, Ediz Arca, said: “This is the biggest movement that Cyprus has had in a long time that gives me hope that reunification is possible.”

Lot, lot more (and well worth a read) at ... http://www.cyprus-mail.com/occupy/buffe ... s/20111218

.................

The Protesters are reporting that the UN have re-inforced the steel panel gates that shut off the rest of the Nicosia buffer zone with bundles of barbed-wire. Clearly designed to mark the limits of the UN's tolerance with the protest.

There are pickies of this barbed wire and some nice and rarely seen photos of the Nic buffer zone beyond the occupation at ...

Just a little reminder that some CYs will be spending this Xmas in the Buffer Zone, in United Free Cyprus.

Sure all will wish to send them very best wishes.

The latest from the Occupation by the way with some indicators of where they are going next with the protest...

The Occupiers write...

It feels at the moment as though we're buzzing with enthusiasm and with ideas for events and other things to carry out at the Occupation.

This session is intended to provide a relaxed setting for people to develop their ideas into tangible plans and meet up with people who may wish to get on board their project and help realise these ideas.

Examples of project ideas that already came up: a unified and comprehensive website, broadcasting on the internet, training sessions, history flyers, etc.

Join us around the fire for a nice chat about fresh new ideas, and maybe a cup of tea, if we have water.
