Cyprus – Finally, energy security for the EU.

Benefits and problems from the EU membership.

The gas should always be able to flow to the EU through Greece no matter what, but Cyprus should not override the prospect of selling directly to Turkey as well, even for their domestic consumption because that is a lucrative deal.

Turkey must invest and cooperate with everyone to the maximus to get in on any Cypriot gas, otherwise her prospects of becoming a transit hub to the west get extinguished just like that. I dont fancy her chances much and that is not good for Cyprus either.

It's suicidal to provide services or resources to benefit the enemy (Turkey) which illegally occupies our country and is racially abusing the majority, natives, of the island.

Common sense dictates that all resources should be used against the enemy.

Totally agree, and only a complete idiot would do otherwise.

Greece, Cyprus seek EU funds for Mediterranean energy corridor

Greece and Cyprus will present two Mediterranean energy plans to the European Commission in an effort to secure part financing from the European Union, the Greek Energy Ministry said.
Greece, Cyprus and Israel are to promote the connection of the three states with an underwater electricity cable and a natural gas pipeline, the ministry said late Thursday in an e-mailed statement.
The 2,000-megawatt EuroAsia Interconnector Project underwater cable between Israel and Europe would help ensure the security of power supplies to Israel, Cyprus and Greece as well as to southeast Europe and the Mediterranean area, the Greek and Cypriot energy authorities said April 26.
The pipeline would allow Israeli, Cypriot and possibly Greek gas later, to be sent to European clients via Greece, offering the region a third source of the fuel in addition to Russian and Azeri supplies, former Greek Energy Minister George Papaconstantinou said March 5.

Greece and Cyprus have agreed to an Israeli request to lay a power cable to Europe via the two Mediterranean nations.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the national Infrastructure Minister of Israel, Uzi Landau, Cypriot commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Neoklis Silikiotis and Greek Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change met in Nicosia for the final discussions in regard to the power cable connecting Greece and Cyprus with Israel.
The Israel-to-Europe cable will be built by the Israel Electric Corporation and PPP Quantum Energy, which is controlled by the Greek power utility and Cypriot companies. Israel and Cyprus signed an accord to lay the underwater cable in March.

Not while she occupies a third of the country, but why not afterwards, if she cooperates and withdraws from the island on Cyprus's terms?

Max, I donnu where you have been living for the last 300 years, but Turkey CANNOT be trusted in or out of Cyprus. This is the point. Today she is all lovey dovey, tomorrow she will take your head. So, staying well clear of the Turks is the only way (secure way) forward.

Turkey is rogue, cannot be trusted and is not the country we need to be partnering with.

Cheers

I cannot disagree with that either B25. I think Turkey is a lost cause. Its just for the money and to end the occupation. 80 million Turks need energy and Cyprus can always turn the tap off.

Advantage Cyprus.

My bet is that the Turks will just end up paying for whatever Cypriot gas they consume, consider that their share.

Its highly unlikely that the EU will be buying Cypriot gas via Turkey.
