Hi there,

I am a Cypriot Citizen born in London and ONLY have Cypriot nationality, and use my ID card to travel in Europe.
I have never had any problem in mainland Europe (Scandinavia included), the guys at the airport just look at the card and wave you on. In Norway they did not even take it out of my hand same in Switzerland. However, my ease of travel is abruptly halted whenever I arrive in the UK I get the third degree from UK Immigration in Stansted and on Eurostar.
Comments like "You are one of us", implying (born in the UK!), "this card is fake!", "Do you have a passport?" or "I can't scan this!". Has anybody had grief from some of these guys, or am I the only one? Any experiences in Europe also? I would be pleased to hear your stories.

Never had much problem with the UK border one, they recognise my cypriot ID just fine and most of them are really kind both heathrow and eurostar. At the eurostar and eurolines its always the french giving me shit about my ID. Last time I was taken to the interrogation room and I had to wait there for 20 minutes, almost lost my bus and ferry.

The axpristo bretanniki elexho go on about the card not being scannable. I find that funny from a bunch of muppets that can't read or write. As for the French never had any problem except one twat at Calais who got a magnifying glass out and went to question me in spazmena engelezika and git drowned in university level French the malaga!

Try going to the USA with your ID card :lol:

that'll be fun.

US immigration love people with any problems they don,t like. I know if you carry ID of one nationality and were actually born elswhere they don't like it.

Tell you what Larnaca is easy peasy to go thru, they don't seem bothered about much.

In the UK well it appears we are targets for terrorists, can't think why :wink:

same as US tough stringent immigration controls. I went thru Singapore immigration this year, believe me the UK are kind compared to them. These guys don't pass the time of day with you

you were treated like royalty, now we are all potential smugglers or terrorists or drunks! If I could I would avoid airports but sadly I can't. They really are ridiculous places now, but Larnaca is one of the good ones.
