Yes, who knows what the arrangement is... but on the matter of Kassinis ... would be a great loss if he goes. He does seem to have been the architect and driving force of the Noble arrangement and he even had the knowledge and imagination to alert the Israellis as to the prospects in their EEZ area.

I met him once at his office because the govt (his department) owed me subsidies and wouldn’t get on with the processing/paying up. I can’t say I was impressed by this bloke…

Have you been drilling for oil in your back-yard GR? ... Just been reading a report by Cassinis produced in a Shell journal... seems to know his oil and gas and geology.

Something further to reflect on overnight as to the prospects in Aphrodite...

There's a very good chance that it's part of the same formation as the nearby Israelli Leviathan prospect. Now Leviathan has produced results at the first drilling level of 5000m and and also at a second, deeper level at 7,200m.

So the estimates for Aphrodite may well double (more or less, in ballpark terms) when a deeper exploration is carried out on a future occasion... :D

Whichever way you slice it, it's money we never had, it fell from the heavans into our lap, whatever we get out of it, is a bonus.

The important thing is to utulise it carefully and not let the few at the top get mega rich on it at our expense.

Rest assured that's exactly what will happen. The millionaires will become billionaires and the middle class will continue to bear the brunt of the tax burden!

Turkish EU Minister Calls Greek-Cyprus Membership in EU a Mistake
The Turkish minister (Bagis) stated that if the Cyprus Problem solution is based on political equality, it will be beneficial for both the future of Turkey and the security of Cyprus and Europe.
“Seventy percent of Europe’s required energy resources were transported from within Turkey’s borders, and Europe did not have the chance to reach those resources without Turkey’s contribution,” Bağış said.

http://www.defencegreece.com/index.php/ ... a-mistake/

Who will be needing the transport through Turkey after a while? EU will be receiving CY and Israeli gas soon which will be drilled by European companies (next to the US ones). Not to mention that the sea beds of the Cretan and the Ionian sea, which are lso estimated to be very rich in gas, come next, according to information in the Greek press. Add to this that the Burgas-Alexandroupolis project, which will bring the Russian oil to Europe through Bulgarian and Greek territories is expected to go ahead soon.
Combine the above and you have Turkey left alone with its Neo Ottoman dreams to be guarding the Dardanelles for nothing after a few years.

Nobel Energy Optimistic for a Multibillion Gas Reserve in Cyprus

Noble Energy officials presented their optimism on board the research platform "Homer", offshore Cyprus, regarding the potential existing reserves of gas. They estimated around a 10 trillion cubic feet of gas according to their latest geological estimations and they added that more definite data will come forward by the beginning of December.

Noble's research drill is moving at a pace of 50 meters per day and the target is to conclude the drill by entering into the reserve with a width of less than 2 meters, followed by cementing the area and placing the extraction tubes.

Cypriot newspaper Fileleftheros reported that the American company’s officials assured around $100 billion USD worth of gas fields with current prices. 20% of the field is in the Israeli exclusive economic zone; the rest belongs to the Cypriot one. According to the contract made between Noble and the government of Cyprus as it was revealed recently in the Cypriot parliament, the company will receive 50% of revenues for the first 25 years. Thereafter Cyprus will receive the full income derived from the gas field.

Moreover, sources from Israel's energy community point out that three other potential gas fields are to be explored in the coming years on the border area between the exclusive economic zones of both Israel and Cyprus that can potentially transform the region of Eastern Mediterranean into a promising gas production area for the whole of the globe. To that one must add the already found Tamar and Leviathan fields.

The situation in the wider region has already attracted interests by many international energy companies. The press in Cyprus reports frequently around interest from Gazprom and Total in acquiring research rights and talks of an unofficial nature have already taken place in Nicosia between high-level managers from the companies and state officials. In parallel vessels from the Navies of U.S (6th fleet) and the Russian Navy are patrolling offshore Cyprus within a distance 60-100 miles from coast. Several reliable sources mention around the presence of UK and French vessels, as well as Turkish, Israeli and Greek.

The overall assumption by many security analysts is that Cyprus is steadily becoming an important energy point regarding the future of European energy security, and estimate that this also entails increased antagonism by various state and corporate interests. The latest high-level information for security analysts in London mention that a growing crisis may be at hand concerning Turkey's moves against the "energy entente" between Nicosia and Tel Aviv.

It's nice to see that Ankara has given it's approval for all these companies and institutions to go ahead to search and recover natural resources from the Cyprus EEZ.

I would hate to see what Erdogan would do to these people if they dared to move without his approval.
