Here's the first para in full...
..."Turkish Cypriot foreign minister" Hüseyin Özgürgün said transforming the island of Cyprus into a federation was not an acceptable solution to the Cyprus dispute..."
(Somebody had better tell this plonker what the F in BBF stands for)

It has been obvious for a very long time, that BBF as in Federation with EU Principles were not to the liking of Turkey and the "trnc". That's why the Annan Plan was created, to do away with the BBF problem by doing away with the RoC completely. The problem now however for the "trnc" and Turkey is, for a very long time BBF has been the accepted formula for Cyprus solution by the rest of the world, therefore, for Turkey and the "trnc" to wanting to change the BBF formula in the 11th hour of the talks right after the meeting in New York with Ban Ki-moon is not going to fly at all. One can also assume, that Ban Ki-moon is also favouring a BBF with EU Principles for the "end game" for the talks. First of all, the RoC does not need to accept another formula for a settlement, except going back to the 1960 agreements with exactly the same EU Principles it wants in BBF. This is what I meant when I wrote on another thread yesterday when I stated that the "trnc" and Turkey have painted themselves into a corner. A two state solution is not going to happen and neither will it be considered by anyone, specially the UN. They do not need another Israel-Palestine issues in Cyprus.
Naturally, the two state solution the "trnc" and Turkey wants in Cyprus would be a very special one, since the intend would be to have two independent sovereign states under some kind of a loose government where Turkey would still have certain control over the RoC, as well as the north state have a share in the Gas and Oil from south state. This is simply not going to happen. The best result the "trnc" and Turkey can expect now, is to maintain the status quo, which also means that Turkey's EU talks are finished and that the RoC will get the Gas to the surface without the "trnc" benefiting from it, and the only indirect benefit coming to the TCs, will be within the government controlled areas of the RoC. The biggest obstacle to the "trnc's" complete independent sovereign state to be absolutely separate from the RoC, which even if it had a 1 in a million chance, Turkey will never allow it to happen. If it did, Turkey will lose the rest of Cyprus for good, which she cannot fathom at all of the idea it happening. Turkey's and "trnc's" only hope of getting themselves out of the painted corner they find themselves in, is for another kind of Annan Plan to be voted and passed by the GCs, and the chance of that happening, is nil to none.
